I believe our five new players should all be on campus this week. Looking forward to reading some summer reports over the new two months.
You've got to love this from Mike Kirkland:
Seems like dreams are coming true. This time tomorrow I'll be in Connecticut , hopefully in the gym ?? ! at my new home for 2 more years ! Have to say that I'm blessed and thankful for this opportunity to better myself as a player and a man. I'm excited and ready to get to work with great teammates and coaching staff !! Couldn't ask for a better situation. #FU16 #fairfieldbound #fairfieldbasketball #fairfielduniversity #Stags

Yes this will be the first time that all the players will be together I would think. Important period for bonding, not only on the practice court, but also off as well. Never too early to develope good chemistry, right?
6-2 recruited Walk-on Jared Harper...... ready to compete. He was a recruited Division 1 player in California..... before had an injury a couple of years ago. Could be someone to watch
Jared Harper @jaredharper4 · Jun 29 Moving into Fairfield today for the summer. About to put in work

Highlight video of Jared Harper. Lots of competition this year between young vs experienced players. A few of the Frosh could beat out some of the Veterans/JUCO's

Kid certainly looks great in this "highlight" film, but then again they all do in these edited versions. However I do see some things I like in his game that might help him fit with the Stags, not the least being his physical build (former football player), and his ability to get other teammates involved besides himself. Got a feeling he may have been a bit under recruited based on the year or two of inactivity because of the injury, hence the walk-on status. We need guards to step up immediately, and the more competition the better this summer should help to speed up the process.
Junior Saintel, an athletic class of 2014 SF from Holy Spirit in NJ tweeted that he visited Fairfield yesterday. He is committed to Chipola JC, but, appears to be exploring an opportunity with the Stags. Perhaps another newcomer?
While Saintel was a 2014 HS graduate, I believe that we are "officially" out of scholarships as of Yesterday (July 1st)...... the day that Scholarships were renewed for 2014-15. Saintel looks to be highly athletic and needs to develop other aspects of his game. He looks to have a lot of potential, and could go Prep, or even go the CC/JUCO and not play this year. Or he could get a scholarship from a team that still has an opening.
What interests me about Harper, is that he seems to have the PG mindset to run a team, like a "pure" PG. He also looks to be a good shooter, that will look to pass it inside, instead of dribble or power his way inside. From the videos, Segura seems to be similar to KJ in that both lower their shoulder and have the strength to plant it in a defender's chest, and kick it out to the shooters.
What we can't tell from the video's of Segura and Harper is how they will handle pressure from the Quick and Strong PG's in Division I, not some HS/Prep defender..... thats the #1 basic skill a PG needs. Competition is 3 deep.
Does anybody know whether or not Nelson is playing on the Golf Team as well?
No golf for Tyler as a Stag. Considering how good he is at the sport however (near state champ, at least 3 hole in ones), I think there is a correlation with hoops as far as concentration ability, especially in regards to shooting. But it's basketball only full speed ahead for him at this time.
