Smith and Schatzlein named to Third Team All-MAAC

Congratulations to Casey Smith and Kristin Schatzlein being named today to the THIRD TEAM ALL-MAAC

The 2014-2015 All-MAAC Third Team unit is also a formidable group. The Third Team consists of Fairfield University junior guard Kristin Schatzlein and first year redshirt sophomore forward Casey Smith, Marist senior guard Sydney Coffey, Quinnipiac University senior guard Gillian Abshire and senior forward Nikoline Ostergaard and Siena College freshman forward Margot Hetzke.

The pair averaged 24 of the team’s 57.3 points this season while not missing a start. The two are the 18th and 19th All-MAAC selection in the last eight years under Head Coach Joe Frager. “It’s a really nice honor just to be mentioned among the top players in the MAAC,” Head Coach Joe Frager said. “It doesn’t matter which team you make, just to be mentioned at the top by the league’s coaches it’s a big honor. We are very happy because they have worked real hard this year.”

“Schatz has spent a lot of minutes on the floor and we asked her to do a lot,” Coach Frager said. “We asked her to be our go-to player and I think she had a real strong last third of the season.”....

“Smitty has done everything we asked for her in her first collegiate season,” Frager said. “We relied on both of them heavily and she has had a lot of big games for us.”
