Local coverage from the POUGHKEEPSIE JOURNAL: The Marist College women's basketball team doesn't need to be told how good Fairfield can be. When the Stags transformed from a young team with potential to a young team with Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship potential, the Red Foxes had a front row seat.
Sunday, second-seeded Marist will face No. 3 Fairfield with a spot in the MAAC title game hanging in the balance. On. Jan. 6, a 2-10 Fairfield team that had played "the hardest non-conference schedule in the conference," Marist coach Brian Giorgis said, came to Poughkeepsie and pulled out a 56-55 victory. Starting with that game, Fairfield has won 13 of its last 18, including a 65-57 decision over Niagara in the quarterfinals Friday.
"It definitely bolstered their self-belief," Fairfield coach Joe Frager said on Monday. "It was a big step forward for us. I do think the kids mentally sort of used that as a springboard going forward."....www.poughkeepsiejournal.com/story/sports/college/marist/2015/03/07/marists-semifinal-foe-became-threat-poughkeepsie/24577743/
