Stags (14-4) will meet #11 Princeton (14-3) in the First Round of the NCAA Division 1 Women's Lacrosse Tournament. The Fairfield-Princeton game will be played at Stony Brook University's Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium on Friday, May 8 at 7 p.m. The winner of the game will advance to the Second Round vs. #5 Stony Brook (AE) (18-1) on Sunday, May 10 at Noon. Selection Process The championship provides for a field of 26 teams. Thirteen conference champions qualify automatically; the balance of the field is selected at-large by the NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Committee. Bracketing InformationThe championship bracket consists of 26 teams. • First Round (May 8): Ten, two-team first rounds will be conducted at non-predetermined campus sites. • Second Round (May 10): Eight, two-team second rounds will be conducted at non-predetermined campus sites. • Quarterfinals (May 16 or 17): Four, two-team quarterfinals will be conducted at non-predetermined campus sites. All rounds are single-elimination with four teams advancing to the Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championship in Philadelphia. Stags (14-5) lose 8-18 to Princeton (15-3). A box score attendance of 458 box score. #11 Princeton advances to the NCAA Second Round at #5 Stony Brook (18-1) on Sunday at Noon. Stags started the game down 4-0 and Princeton led 10-7 at the half. Stags were outscored 8-1 in the second half and outshot 30/17 in the game. In addition to their first MAAC Championship since 2009, this season also saw the Stags record the program’s most victories (14) since 2009 and the team’s ninth straight campaign with at least 10 in the win column. The game also marked the final contest in a head coaching career of Fairfield’s Mike Waldvogel. The seven-year head coach of the Stags, who also led the Yale men’s lacrosse team for 22 seasons as a part of his Hall of Fame career, will be succeeded as Fairfield’s head coach by Associate Head Coach Laura Field next season. Waldvogel will remain with the program as the Coordinator of Lacrosse Operations.
