FYI: A great story on Veterans Day today or any day: 41.media.tumblr.com/3beb59f55416522e609742eca47695b6/tumblr_inline_nxnj2mmeEM1tr558w_250.pngShelby Iapoce ‘16 helped the Fairfield men's and women's lacrosse teams become the first Division 1 college lacrosse program to officially partner with the Wounded Warrior Project. In this ThinkSpace post, she writes about finding strength in times of loss, and how important it is to support and honor our veterans. As a lacrosse player, I’ve always considered my teammates as family, and I feel the same connection with any serviceman or woman who has served our country. After hearing about the Wounded Warrior Project, I knew it would be the perfect fit for Fairfield Lacrosse to honor veterans.
In 2013 Fairfield’s men’s and women’s lacrosse teams became the first Division 1 college lacrosse program to become an official partner with the Wounded Warrior Project. Our first year, during the spring of 2014, we raised $14,000 and another $20,000 in the second year. After listening to veterans speak to our teams, write letters to us from their base in Afghanistan and visit us in the locker room before our games, the teams genuinely became connected to the organization. We experienced what an honor it is to be “proud supporters” of the Wounded Warrior Project and shared our enthusiasm with other athletes, coaches, students, staff members and the school community.....thinkspace.fairfield.edu/post/132998898827/what-it-really-means-to-be-a-warriorShelby Iapoce Roster Bio:www.nmnathletics.com/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=209367484&DB_OEM_ID=32500
