The Stags will open up the 2015-16 season on the newly dedicated George R. Bisacca Court at Alumni Hall when they host Patriot League La Salle on Friday night at 7pm. The 2015-16 season will mark the 35th Division I campaign for the Stags who come into the year with a 590-424 record all-time. It will be the 42nd varsity season for Fairfield who has played 1,156 total games and holds a 659-497 record as a varsity squad.
As a Division I side, the Stags have scored a total of 67,524 points in their 34 years. This will mark the ninth season for Head Coach Joe Frager who has had a conference winning record in every season. The Stags are 18-16 all-time when opening up the season, and 5-3 at Alumni Hall. This is the first time the Stags are opening up at home since the 2011-12 season. FAIRFIELD VS LA SALLE: The Stags and the Explorers will be meeting for the fifth-straight season and the 28th time all-time. At Alumni Hall, the Stags are 10-4 against the former MAAC school. The last time the Stags dropped a home game to La Salle was in 2012. The last time these two teams met, Casey Smith had the best game of her career in her return to Philadelphia. Smith became the 17th Stag all-time to record 12 field goals in a single game as she netted 24 in the loss. Stags (1-0) win home opener 62-59 in regulation. No overtime but LaSalle outscores the Stags 44/29 in the second half. AH looked pretty empty on the video webacst. Sad but maybe everyone was worn out after the men's loss earlier to Yale.
Kelsey Carey with 19 points, 4 boards Casey Smith with 13 points, 5 boards Sam Cooper with 11 points, 13 boards, 40 minutes Lizzie Ball with a career high 7 assists, 5 boards, 40 minutes Kristin Schatzlein not in the game?
Stags Score 62 Field Goals 43.4%(23-53) 3-Point FGs 33.3%(4-12) Free Throws 60%(12-20) Rebounds 37(10-27) Steals 4 Blocks 3 Assists 15 Turnovers 13
LaSalle Score 59 Field Goals 36.8%(21-57) 3-Point FGs 13.3%(2-15) Free Throws 75%(15-20) Rebounds 36(10-26) Steals 5 Blocks 0 Assists 8 Turnovers 12

Hmmm...I was using live stats and it said 2 OT when I started watching. Technical error? Had to be a technical problem-definitely not a happy hour problem-Stag grads can handle their booze.

Schatzlein didn't dress. Makes the win even more impressive. Arguably their best player.

Hmmm...I was using live stats and it said 2 OT when I started watching. Technical error? The new NCAA ruling has the games being played by quarters but LiveStats was breaking the game down by halves so they had the third quarter as OT and the final quarter as 2OT. Hopefully someone in SID at the University will let LiveStats know of the problem? NCAA women’s basketball games will be played in four 10-minute quarters. The NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel approved moving the game to the new format and away from the 20-minute halves the sport has always used in NCAA competition on a conference call Monday. The NCAA Women’s Basketball Rules Committee, which initially recommended the rule change, believes the four-quarter format will enhance the flow of the game. The change also was endorsed by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Board of Directors. The rest of the new NCAA rules: www.ncaa.com/news/basketball-women/article/2015-06-08/ncaa-womens-basketball-adopts-new-rules-including-four-10

There was no shortage of energy in AH last night for the team's home and season opener. The only thing missing were fans as the Box Score has an attendance of only 272 but kudos to the students that did come out to the game: image.cdnllnwnl.xosnetwork.com/pics33/1024/PI/PIFBBOXCYOWRPNY.20151114031624.pngVideo highlights:www.fairfieldstags.com/mediaPortal/player.dbml?id=4684301&db_oem_id=32500“It has to do with the composition of the team,” Head Coach Joe Frager said about the team’s energy. “Lizzy has that Energizer Bunny kind of a personality and Kelsey Carey is Staten Island tough.”
“I show a lot of energy and that’s what I love about the game,” Ball who dished out a career-high seven assists said. “I think it helps a lot in the game...it really gets you going and gets your adrenaline going. I like playing like that,” she said with a laugh.
“I think I just go in with the mentality of working the hardest I can for my team,” Carey said. “I’m not out there to score, I’m just going to do whatever my team needs me to do and go as hard as I can.”Carey would finish with a team-high 19 points, including hitting seven of her first nine shots to give the Stags a large lead. “I feel she’s always the person that is going to talk and get everybody going,” Ball said. “I love playing with her...it’s awesome to have someone come of the bench and give us that spark that we need.”Kristen McLaughlin added seven points filling in for Kristin Schatzlein who did not play with an injury.“I love it, because that’s not the first time that is going to happen,” Coach Frager said when talking about the team’s adversity. “We are going to be put in that situation quite a bit, whether we are down or we’re ahead and have to hold on.”

Coach didn't need to make it this close. I know it's early but your best PG is a freshman in Landy. Let her run the team.

So, let a freshman make her debut against the best defensive PG in the A-10? I'm quite sure she'll get a chance against Loyola.
