Stags (2-0) at the WBA vs. Sacred Heart (0-2) on Saturday, November 21 at 5:00 pm.
FAIRFIELD VS SACRED HEART: This will only be the fourth meeting between the two teams at the Division I level, despite being separated by just about four miles. The Stags have a 2-1 record in the previous Division I meetings (9-5 overall). However, Fairfield has won those two contests by a combined three points. No player on either side of the tape was around the last time these two teams met in 2009. Desiree Pina was one of four Stags in double figures with 17 points while Maggie Cosgrove hit five of her seven long range shots for the Pioneers in their victory. The Stags will be looking to win bragging rights for the first time since the 2008-09 campaign.
THE PIONEER SCOUTING REPORT: The Pioneers come into the rivalry game with an 0-2 record with losses to Hartford and New Hampshire. Sacred Heart most recently dropped an 81-69 decision to the Wildcats. Sacred Heart has always been a recognizable program in the NEC and in the Mid-Major ranks. Actually, this is the first time since 2006, that no currently player has earned a Northeast Conference Championship ring. The Pioneers last advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2012. The Pioneers were selected fifth in the NEC Preseason Coaches Poll, after finishing fourth a season ago. Hannah Kimmel is their leading returner after being named to the All- NEC First Team in 2014-15. She has already averaged 20.5 points per game. She finished the season with 12 double-doubles, the most by a Pioneer since the 2011-12 season.
