The Stags Women’s Lacrosse team was voted to finish second in the Preseason Coaches’ Poll as announced by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference on Wednesday night. The Stags, defending league champions, finished just one point behind regular season champion Canisius in the poll. The Golden Griffins totaled 77 points and five first place votes. Fairfield finished with 76 points and the four other first place votes. Last season, Fairfield finished with a 14-5 overall record including 7-1 in MAAC play. The Stags were the number two seed in the postseason tournament and defeated third seeded Monmouth and top seeded Canisius en route to their third league title and first since 2009. It was the second MAAC Championship under Head Coach Mike Waldvogel and capped a Hall of Fame head coaching career as he stepped down from that title after the season. The Stags advanced to the NCAA Tournament before falling to No. 11 Princeton 18-8First year Head Coach Laura Field will take over the program after spending seven seasons alongside Waldvogel and will look to the lead the Stags back to the top of the MAAC. Three student-athletes were also tabbed as Preseason All-MAAC Players. Junior midfielder Riley Hellstein, senior defender Melissa Laible, and senior goalkeeper Chelsey Sidaras were all named to the Preseason Team.
