THE CANISIUS (7-4)(2-0) SCOUTING REPORT: T he Griffs are off to their best start in over 20 years, as the 7-4 record is the best winning percentage for Canisius since the 1994-95 season. If you’re looking for one main reason for their turnaround then it’s obvious you have to look at the 3-point shooting. As a team, the Griffs enter the game shooting 39 percent from behind the arc (11th best in the country). Four players shoot north of 40 percent from long range, and this even comes after a game where the Griffs shot just 29 percent from deep in their loss to St. Bonaventure. Number one on the list of sharpshooters has been Margaret Halfdanardottir (yes, one of the longest names in Division I), as she shoots 50 percent from deep (21-for-42). Tiahana Mills, the reigning MAAC Player of the Week, follows her with a 44 percent long range shooting percentage (14-for-32). The offense has been clicking on all cylinders as they assist on 68 percent of their baskets, with Tamara Miskovic leading with 4.0 per game. Kristin Schatzlein grabbed an offensive rebound in the lane and was able to connect on a runner with 1.4 seconds left to overturn a one-point deficit to give the Stags a 51-50 win. http://instagram.com/p/BADQ7avC8Kt “That’s exactly how we planned it,” Head Coach Joe Frager joked with a smile. “It wasn’t but to our credit, the kids did execute and Canisius guarded it. Schatz had a great rebound and put back…It looked like they had it for the first five or six minutes of the fourth quarter but this is a huge win for us.”..... “They did find a way to win and that is what a basketball team has to do,” Frager said. “Kelsey had a massive game for us against Harvard and they did a really good job guarding her and other kids stepped up and that’s what you have to do.”....Box Score:www.fairfieldstags.com/fls/32500/Stats/WBB/2015-16/can0102.htm
