Frustrating...this is only the third year that the Richmond lacrosse program has been in existence. Faceoffs killed us. I believe our FOGO Will Fox was injured.

We got crushed on faceoffs and time of possession. We adjusted in 2nd half with a long stick on the faceoffs to at least compete, but we were already in a hole.
Very frustrating way to start the season.
Two NCAA college lacrosse points:
1. The fact that the season starts this early now is crazy. I think the season used to start early March. I think starting this early puts the Northeast schools at a disadvantage and really tilts the playing field toward these newer programs down South. I really feel this needs to be reconsidered by the NCAA.
2. Shot clock - Everyone has woken up to the importance of time of possession. Princeton really mastered this when going on their NCAA run in the late '90s, but now 15 years later everyone slows it down when they are ahead. I am not necessarily advocating a constant shot clock, but maybe a clock on the team that is leading. The game is really suffering from a spectators point of view when a team passes the ball in a circle for 5 minutes.

"Honestly, all that today’s loss means is that we’re not going undefeated this year,” said Head Coach Andy Copelan. “It’s never how you start a season, it’s how you finish.”....
“There’s no quit in that locker room. The guys came out in the second half and fought tooth and nail,” said Copelan, the reigning CAA Coach of the Year. “We won the ground ball battle in the second half, which obviously was one of our shortcomings in the first half.”....
"We’ve got the pieces right now, but we’re still trying to put things together,” Copelan added. “But I believe in that group of guys. I wish we could be 1-0, but we’ll move on.”
