The #4 Stags take on #5 Monmouth in the MAAC Quarterfinal Round on Saturday at 2:30 pm. Fairfield has an all-time record of 17-9 in the Quarterfinal Round games, with their last victory coming last season over #6 Niagara, 65-57. The Stags haven't played a game in the last 8 days since February 26th and also lost their last three games of the MAAC Regular Season to the top three teams in the league (Quinnipiac, Marist and Iona).
FAIRFIELD VS MONMOUTH: The Stags and the Hawks will meet in the MAAC tournament for the first-time ever, as Monmouth enters the conference tournament for the third time as a conference member. The Stags swept Monmouth in the regular season for the first time during those three seasons, with their latest win coming at home on Senior Day. Kelsey Carey led the Stags in those two win, totaling 45 points in just 58 minutes while shooting 53 percent from the floor. Kristin Schatzlein filled out the box score with 16.5 points, 7.0 assists, and 5.5 rebounds.
THE HAWKS SCOUTING REPORT: Monmouth might have a little magic on their side, as they clinched a first-round bye after winning their final four games, and needed some help with three Manhattan and Siena losses during that span. The Hawks are not the same team they showed in their last loss against the Stags. Monmouth is a tremendous 3-point shooting team, averaging nearly eight made per game. They only attempted one 3-pointer in the second half in the last meeting against the Stags, a number that will certainly rise. All-MAAC Second Team member Sarah Olson leads the squad in that category, hitting 2.4 long range shots per contest. Monmouth leads the conference grabbing 39.8 rebounds per game, none better than 6-4 mismatch Christina Mitchell who is third in the conference with 9.1 rebounds per game, a number that is 36th nationally. This season, the Hawks are 8-3 when out-rebounding an opponent.
UP NEXT: If the Stags advance to the Semifinal Round they will take on the winner of #1 Quinnipiac and #8 Niagara on Sunday at 11am.
