Lizzy Ball, Samantha Cooper, Khadidiatou "Dija" Diouf, Macey Hollenshead, Emma McCarthy, Kristen McLaughlin, Helena Orts, and Sarah Stock have each excelled in the classroom and have been honored by the conference by being selected to the MAAC All-Academic Team. Seven of the eight players named will see their name on the list for the first time in their careers, with Cooper the only Stag to have received the honor multiple times.
“I’m extremely proud of all the women on the team because that’s a fantastic accomplishment,” Head Coach Joe Frager said. “Having to balance their academic and athletic responsibilities the way they do is something that we preach but all the credit in the world has to go to those players. When you talk about student-athletes, we have a lot of true student-athletes on our team and we’re proud, not only of the eight players who made it, but we think we have a great group who takes a serious approach to academics. It’s really what our university is all about.”
To be eligible for this selection, a student-athlete must complete two semesters at their institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale. The eight selections are the most among all 11 of the MAAC schools.
“That says a lot,” Coach Frager said. “We have a very supportive and engaged faculty for our students and our kids take their responsibility seriously. When we recruit them the goal is to have as good of a basketball program as we can, but we want our players to be set up for whatever they want to do for this rest of their lives once they graduate. Our kids are doing a fantastic job with that.”
