PC built their Alumni Hall in 1955. The 2,620 seat basketball facility was the on campus home for the PC Friars until 1972 when the Men's Basketball program moved to the Providence Civic Center (Dunkin' Donuts Arena). Since 1974 it has been the home to PC's Women's Basketball and Volleyball programs. Until 2012, the arena sat 2,620 fans. Bleacher seating was available on the main level, with theater seating in the upper level. When the men's team played there, Alumni Hall's upper level was traditionally reserved for season ticket holders while the bleacher seating was generally filled with students. The gymnasium underwent $3 million in renovations in 2012, removing the bleacher seating in favor of theater seating throughout the lower level, reducing the capacity for basketball to 1,854. Video boards were also installed, while the gymnasium became air conditioned for the first time in its history.
PC has their on going capital campaign Our Moment:The Next Century Campaign for Providence College with a goal of $140 million of which $128.6 already reached. Fairfield has their on going capital campaign Fairfield Rising with a goal of $160 million.
In addition, they are funding and building the Ruane Friar Development Center of which Ed Cooley has pledged $500,000. Phase I in 2016, will include a new two-story structure attached to Alumni Hall. That facility will include a basketball practice facility and space for associated Department of Athletics activities.Construction on Phase I, pegged at nearly $30 million, will begin in 2016, with completion expected in late summer 2017. Phase II, estimated at $7.5 million, will be scheduled for a time that will maximize efficiency relative to work on Phase I and will minimize disruption to student life and activities.

PC has an endowment of $213,757,202 whereas Fairfield University has a much greater endowment at over $100 million more with $313,092,000 and yet Fairfield's 2,479 seat Alumni Hall, the home of Stag Women's Basketball and Volleyball, built in 1959 has peeling paint, a half century+ wood bleachers and "maybe" a replacement could be built and be available in 9 to 12 years from now. The current condition of AH should be embarrassing and unacceptable to someone in charge and yet it seems that it still isn't.
How can PC spend $3 million to renovate and update their Alumni Hall only 4 years ago and Fairfield University can't even fix the peeling paint in their Alumni Hall?
