Geno brought his USA Women's Olympic Basketball team to the WBA on Friday and played before 6,371 fans in Bridgeport.

U.S. Women’s National Team vs. Canada
When/Where: Friday at 7 p.m.; Webster Bank Arena, Bridgeport
High demand: As of Wednesday morning, 5,250 tickets had been sold, according to a communications director for USA Basketball. Tickets for Friday’s doubleheader, which tips off at 4:30 p.m. with Australia and France, can be purchased either through the box office or by visiting Ticketmaster. A quick search of Ticketmaster Thursday afternoon showed prices ranging from $11.25 to $139.
Big picture: Friday marks the third of four exhibition games for the U.S. as part of the USA Basketball Showcase. The Americans will play Australia on Sunday at 4 p.m. at Madison Square Garden in New York, then practice in Houston next week before leaving for the Summer Olympics in Brazil.
The last time the U.S. Women’s National Team played in Bridgeport, Diana Taurasi missed all the fun. As her home country took on Canada, Taurasi was on her way to capturing WNBA Finals MVP honors in the Phoenix Mercury’s sweep of the Chicago Sky. “I didn’t get to see the Bridgeport atmosphere,” Taurasi said Thursday after wrapping up practice from the New York Liberty’s practice facility. “Actually on the bus ride over, Sue (Bird) was like, ‘It was really, really good.’ We don’t get a lot of home games as a national team.”
Friday will also mark a homecoming for the standout guard, who is one of five former UConn players on a team coached by Geno Auriemma. The other four include Bird, Tina Charles, Maya Moore and Breanna Stewart.
“It’s going to be really, really sweet,” Charles said, “and really cool, just to have that fanbase that supported us. Especially us UConn alums, just to play back in Bridgeport, we had a couple of NCAA games there.”
