Ironic and fortuitous: A college math lecturer from Monroe, CT is celebrating a $100,000 win after buying a Powerball ticket to teach his students. Nicholas Kapoor teaches at Fairfield University. He says he bought the ticket to use as a prop to teach students about probability and statistics back in October. He ended up matching four numbers, plus the Powerball, and then doubled his prize by playing the "Power Play" option. Kapoor says it's an ironic surprise, especially after telling his students how low their chances of winning are. connecticut.news12.com/news/college-teacher-wins-100-000-from-lottery-1.12578582FYI:The odds for what he did (matching 4 numbers plus the Powerball) were 1 in: 913,130. If you plan on winning the entire Powerball top prize (matching 5 numbers plus the Powerball number) your odds are 1 in: 292,201,338 but if you match just the Powerball number ($4.00 prize) your odds are 1 in: 39. I wonder what the odds are of watching a Stag Basketball game on campus in a new Alumni Hall before the end of the next decade? "Hey, you never know".
