BCC expansion construction has started. Barone Campus Center ExpansionCompletion: Fall 2018 The Barone Campus Center will get a facelift and an upgrade with an expansion that will feature a significantly expanded dining area for students on the top floors, as well as a faculty dining room. What is currently the open patio area and walkway that faces up the hill towards Canisius, will be partially enclosed, creating a light-filled atrium space on the ground floor, which may have a new coffee shop. This will also increase the capacity of the Oak Room, the meeting room on the ground floor. A movable barrier will separate the atrium from the Oak Room, so that the entire area can be opened up for receptions and meetings. The move is necessary because the current dining area is too small during peak hours. Also, the renovation will allow for a more pleasant and engaging dining experience, with food stations where fresh, farm-to-table meals are prepared.
“The current footprint and design for Barone dining has been pretty much the same since I was an undergraduate student in the mid-sixties. So, you can understand why I’m euphoric about the upgrade!” said Jim Fitzpatrick ’70, MA’72, P’08, assistant vice president of Administration and Student Affairs.

Gee. Can you imagine if they had the foresight to build a NEW Alumni Hall on the green, attach it to Barone, convert the existing Alumni Hall into the new RECPLEX, and convert the original RECPLEX to a parking garage? Never mind. Too late. Let's go with 4 separate projects so the campus is under construction for about a decade.

Campus Construction Update: Construction Across Campus Underway! This is a really exciting time for expansion and growth of the Fairfield University campus footprint, as well as for the improvement of some of our existing facilities, which is all part of our Campus-Wide Master Plan.
Work is full-steam ahead around the John A. Barone Campus Center and the Quad area, while preparations are underway for a new parking garage on the footprint of the existing parking lot at the Kelley Center.
The parking garage should be completed by the end of this year. A brand-new dining commons in the Barone Campus Center will be functioning by the fall of 2017 and the new residence hall in the Quad is slated for occupancy in August of 2018.
The University is also currently embarking on a landscape master plan that will assess the trees, plantings and green footprint for the University now and into the future.
We may have a bit of dust and dirt now, but the end result will be well worth the wait. See how campus will be transformed by viewing the renderings of the new facilities!Renderings:www.flickr.com/photos/fairfieldu/sets/72157675292377664/

Glad to see they are expanding this. I know with my time at Fairfield the BCC always seemed to small for the size of the school. With applications and enrollment going up this was a good move.

I like the new dorm and believe will complete the Quad. However, I am skeptical about the garage and Barone expansion. I wish they placed the garage in a less conspicuous location and not on the main boulevard. Barone should have been bulldozed and rebuilt. The piecemeal approach to Barone has left an awkward layout and wasted space. I suspect it will only get worse.
