While Fairfield University does nothing other than talk about the outdated "not up to division 1 standards" Alumni Hall, Quinnipac University is already building two new athletic fields and has moved their Field Hockey team to the BIG EAST. Don't be surprised if Quinnipiac upgrades it's lacrosse program into a better league in the near future. Quinnipiac has a vision about their athletic programs and a plan. Quinnipiac Athletics Announces Construction of Two Fields to Host Field Hockey, Lacrosse and SoccerQuinnipiac University Director of Athletics and Recreation Greg Amodio has announced the construction of two fields that will serve as the new home for Quinnipiac's men's and women's soccer and lacrosse programs as well as the Bobcats' field hockey team. "We are excited to announce the construction of two athletic fields, which are scheduled to be operational by the start of the 2017-18 academic year," Amodio said. "The first field will be the new home to our men's and women's soccer and lacrosse teams while the second will host our field hockey team."Construction on both complexes is underway with a planned opening for the start of the 2017-18 academic year. The soccer and lacrosse complex will feature 1,500 seats and an infill turf playing surface while the field hockey complex will feature seating for 500 fans as well as an artificial turf field and irrigation system. "We are grateful for the commitment that President John Lahey has made to Quinnipiac athletics as we strive to be one of the top athletic departments in the country," Amodio said. "These new fields will provide our varsity teams and student-athletes with premier facilities that rival those of our peer institutions and will allow Quinnipiac Athletics to continue to grow into an elite program."
Both venues will host home and visitor locker rooms, team rooms, training and equipment rooms, first aid stations, restrooms for spectators as well as broadcast-ready press boxes and seating for professional and student media. "The two venues will work in tandem to create a unified athletic complex that also safeguards the adjacent wetlands," said Centerbrook Partner Jeff Riley, FAIA. "Abundant plantings and low- profile structures will merge harmoniously with the wooded setting."

Not to brag, but Fairfield fields are much better in this area.
Lessing 1. Soccer has own field with stands 2. Grass which is preferable in soccer 3. Incredible scoreboard
Rafferty 1. Lacrosse has own facility 2. Lockerrooms, bathrooms, food stand (like Quinnie) 3. Boxes 4. Press box (like Quinnie) 5. Incredible scoreboard

Good for them. I will take Rafferty Stadium, Lessing Field and Alumni Baseball Diamond over these new Quinnipiac athletics facilities, thank you.

I do too but the most important part to me was the AD's quote about Dr. Lahey and the goal of Quinnipiac:
"We are grateful for the commitment that President John Lahey has made to Quinnipiac athletics as we strive to be one of the top athletic departments in the country," Amodio said. "These new fields will provide our varsity teams and student-athletes with premier facilities that rival those of our peer institutions and will allow Quinnipiac Athletics to continue to grow into an elite program."

Lacrosse has own facility 2. Lockerrooms, bathrooms, food stand (like Quinnie) 3. Boxes 4. Press box (like Quinnie) 5. Incredible scoreboard Ok Lessing's surface is great, no doubt but here's the skinny- Soccer has to pay for line painting (doesn't come out of department budget) Limited bathroom facilities, no locker facilities Stands are temporary/flimsey Rafferty is awesome except the locker rooms do not have showers. That is correct, they don't have showers and Lax still has their locker room in WAC, so what's the point of the locker rooms in Rafferty? Bottom line, FU73 hit the nail on the head, the school and the head of the department have no idea what it takes to sustain a D1 program. There needs to be drastic changes at the top immediately.
