Best of luck to our softball team in the championship game--whenever they're able to get it played with the current forecast.

Interesting situation with the rain cancellations. Our Starting pitcher, Destinee Palotto has started all 3 games and has gone 3-0. So the Rain Cancellation is definitely good for her. However Monmouth's starting pitcher, Amanda Riley, as started all 4 games and has gone 3-1...... so maybe she needs the rest even more. Riley's only loss was to Fairfield, by the score of 4-0. One of these pitchers is going to create a great memory.
We need a pitching performance like Bertha Tickey, Joan Joyce, Donna Lopiano, Kathy Arendsan, and Barbara Reinalda..... of the Brakettes.

Sunday's forecast for New Rochelle:
Sunday 05/14: Rain 60% / 0.06 in Partly cloudy in the morning. Increasing clouds with periods of showers later in the day. High 67F. Winds NW at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 60%.
An interesting problem for the MAAC. The game or second game if Stags lose has to be played sometime on Sunday because the NCAA Softball Selection Show is Sunday night at 10:00 pm on ESPN2. No matter what time the game is played on Sunday, Iona's Walsh Field will be less than ideal.
Stags vs. Monmouth: April 14 at Monmouth - 1-0 (13 innings) Win April 14 at Monmouth - 5-1 Loss May 12 at New Rochelle - 4-0 Win
No quotes on the Stag website but from the Iona website:
"We have to show up tomorrow and play our style of ball. If we do too much, we're not going to win. We have to beat them twice, so that's going to be a tough task, but we're going to be ready for it” – Monmouth head coach Shannon Salsburg
“My arm is feeling pretty good, surprisingly. It's the end of the season, so I just want to give it everything I have.” –Monmouth pitcher Amanda Riley

Iona's outfield is turf and with the tarp on the infield, there should be no field issues. Pallotto is peaking at the right time. She was effiecient yesterday and attacked their big hitters. Riley is pitching well, but is throwing a lot of pitches. She will need to pitch to contact more if they want her to go two games. The Stags need to get to her early again. Once she figured out the umps strike zone yesterday , she settled in. Either way, the bottom of the order for the stags needs to be more productive to at least turn the lineup over. Reed and Hankins will be key to bringing in runs.
Go Stags!

The Monmouth Hawks play in their third-straight MAAC Championship game and second as the No. 5 seed. Monmouth advanced to the 2016 MAAC Championship game as the No. 5 seed and faced No. 2 Fairfield. The Hawks have never won a MAAC Softball Championship since they entered the conference in 2013-14. The Fairfield Stags play in their first MAAC Championship since 2015 when they defeated No. 5 Monmouth as the No. 2 seed. Fairfield has claimed two MAAC Softball Championships in its history (2015 & 1991). Monmouth is (3-1) through four games in the MAAC Championship, with wins over No. 4 Manhattan College, No. 1 Iona College, and No. 3 Marist College. The Hawks suffered their only loss to the Stags on Friday, which dropped them into the losers' bracket. Fairfield is (3-0) in three games in the MAAC Championship. The Stags defeated No. 3 Marist, No. 2 Siena College, and No. 5 Monmouth en route to the Championship final berth. Fairfield's Destinee Pallotto has compiled a (3-0) record with a 1.05 ERA (three earned runs/20.0 innings pitched) and has struck out 15 batters in three starts during the Championship. Through four starts in the MAAC Softball Championship, Monmouth's Amanda Riley is (3-1) with a 0.93 ERA (four earned runs/30.0 innings pitched). She has surrendered 15 hits, struck out 31, and walked 13. The junior finished all four of her starts, including a 9.0 inning performance against No. 1 Iona College in the second round of play. Since the MAAC went to a six-team Championship format in 2014, the No. 5 and No. 6 seeds has never won a MAAC Softball Championship. The only No. 5 seed to play in the MAAC Championship was Monmouth in 2015. Fairfield is making its 11th Championship round appearance, while Monmouth is making its third.

I hope they get a good draw in the tourney and continue on their successful journey.

MAAC Champions' Video Highlights:www.fairfieldstags.com/mediaPortal/player.dbml?id=6127299&db_oem_id=32500The Stags' Destinee Pallotta pitched her first ever college no-hitter: "I probably had a no hitter in high school but this was so significant for me," Pallotto said. "This was a total team effort. I had my defense behind me and I had people hitting for me offensively. I could not have done this without the team. I wanted the ball in my hand today so bad and I really wanted to bring home a win today for my teammates."
"The seniors and Destinee willed us through the tournament," Head Coach Julie Brzezinski said. "They are a resilient group. We just kept getting on base and different players kept coming through during the tournament.""With a two-run lead, pitchers can attack more and not be conservative," Brzezinski said. "I know Des wanted that second run and once she got it, I knew she would be fine. She has a will and a drive like no other to get things done. She is a gamer and someone that you always want on the mound."
