The LSU softball team has been selected as the No. 13 overall seed for the 2017 NCAA Softball Championships and will host the Baton Rouge Regional this weekend with Louisiana-Lafayette, McNeese State and Fairfield May 19-21 at Tiger Park. LSU will take on Fairfield at 6:30 p.m. ET Friday afternoon at Tiger Park, with McNeese State and Louisiana-Lafayette playing in the first game of the regional at 4 p.m. A seeded team for the third consecutive season, the Tigers come into the postseason with a 41-18 overall record, qualifying for the SEC Tournament final for the second straight season. LSU finished the year earning wins over Missouri, Tennessee and Auburn to solidify its place among the top 16 teams in the country, as the team is one of all 13 teams from the Southeastern Conference to make the NCAA Tournament. “It's exciting to host and its fun not to have to travel and play in front of our fans,” head coach Beth Torina said. “They deserve to have us play here too. They've supported us all year and they've been great all season long. I'm glad we get to play in front of them and play in Tiger Park one more time.”Fairfield comes into the regional this week with a 26-26 overall record, going on a magical run in the MAAC tournament and winning the title with a no-hitter in the title game. The Stags were 11-9 in conference play, winning their final five games, including four consecutive games in the MAAC Tournament to qualify for the tournament.

LSU is (27-5) at home this season and averaged 1,712 fans in their Tiger Park. Regardless of the outcome, the student-athletes and coaches of the Stag Softball team will have a well deserved and great experience. Stadium Information Seating Capacity: 2,671 Playing Field Distances Foul Lines: 200 ft. Power Alleys: 210 ft. Centerfield: 220 ft. Located on Skip Bertman Drive off the banks of the Mississippi River, Tiger Park is the crown jewel of college softball. The 2017 season will mark LSU's ninth season of "Softball on the Berm." LSU moved into the state-of-the-art facility prior to the 2009 season. The park features 1,289 chair back and bench back seats, a party deck on the third base side and a 30-seat suite above the first base line. There also is seating for 960 additional fans located in the newly designed Tiger Park Terrace. The two-story Tiger Park clubhouse provides the resources necessary to sustain LSU's championship tradition of excellence. The first story possesses spacious indoor batting cages, an umpire locker room and a training facility. "Best seen at night, when its gables and overhang seem to brighten into a shimmering white sails winging through cool ebony skies, the softball stadium shows that LSU can come up with a building that plays to something other than the local taste for plantation imagery and Greco-Roman bric-a-brac. Welling out of a hillock in a way that suggests strong shoulders on the brink of swinging a home run, the softball stadium evidences a modest freshness that brings a smile and popcorn and hot dogs."

"It was a little bittersweet," Fairfield Head Coach Julie Brzezinski said. " I think we came out with a lot of intensity. I thought we hung with our pitching. We drove the ball when we needed to drive the ball. Destinee (Pallotto) did an amazing job on the mound, and we hung. We played a great game, but we would have liked to have that win. That would have been great.”Pallotto finished with two strikeouts and one walk against her three hits allowed in six innings of work. "It was -- you know, this time of year, a win's a win, and Fairfield gave us a great game," LSU Head Coach Beth Torina said. "Obviously, they're talented. They've been playing well lately. So they came out and did just that here and really gave us a great game. Congratulations to them on a great game."Box Score:www.ncaa.com/game/softball/d1/2017/05/19/fairfield-lsu2017 NCAA Softball Tournament - Baton Rouge RegionalDATE TIME (ET) Friday May 19 G1: #2 UL-Lafayette def. #3 McNeese St., 6-0 May 19 G2: (13) #1 LSU def. #4 Fairfield, 2-1 Saturday May 20 1 p.m. G3: #2 UL-Lafayette vs. (13) #1 LSU May 20 3:30 p.m. G4: #4 Fairfield vs. #3 McNeese St.Elimination Game May 20 6:00 p.m. G5: Game 3 Loser vs. Game 4 Winner Elimination Game Sunday May 21 2:30 p.m. G6: Game 3 Winner vs. Game 5 Winner May 21 5:00 p.m. (if necessary.) Nice effort! Obviously a win would have been great, but to play against a big-time program and have a chance to win late in the game, an NCAA game no less, is an accomplishment.
