On Tuesday afternoon, the Fairfield University Baseball team (28-21) scored four runs in the top of the eighth inning to take a 5-2 lead, but the host UMass Minutemen responded to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth before winning the game with a walk-off single, as the Stags dropped their final non-conference game of the 2017 season 6-5. The Stags pounded out 14 hits, the second-straight game they reached that number, with five hitters recording multiple hit games.
The Stags will now head into the final series of the regular season as they travel to in-state rival Quinnipiac. Fairfield will have a chance to clinch the 2017 MAAC Regular Season Championship title and the tournament's number one seed this weekend.

The Stag Baseball team (29-22)(16-7) has earned a first-round bye in next week's MAAC Baseball Championship after securing a doubleheader split against Quinnipiac (18-31)(11-12), winning the second game 6-5 after dropping the opener 4-3. That victory, combined with Canisius' loss to Niagara in their series opener earned the Stags the right to claim a top-two seed in the MAAC Baseball Championship.
Fairfield has now clinched a first-round bye in next week's MAAC Championship by notching their 16th conference victory. After Marist's win at Siena, the Red Foxes now control their destiny for the regular season crown and the tournament's top overall seed.
In order get a share of the MAAC Regular Season title, the Stags would have to win their final game at Quinnipiac tomorrow at Noon. The only way for Fairfield to get the #1 seed would be a victory tomorrow and a Marist (28-20)(15-7) loss at home in their doubleheader against Siena.
The Stags are (2-6) in their last 6 games and (1-2) in their last 3 games.
Last year the Stags finished the MAAC Regular Season at (29-24)(17-7) and won the 2016 MAAC Regular Season title and the #1 seed.

Stags win 10-4 at Quinnipiac.
Stags with 6 runs in the first inning and a 9-1 lead at the bottom of the Second. Stags with 15 hits in the game.
With the win, the Stags (30-22)(17-7) now get at least a share of the 2017 MAAC Regular Season title. The only way for Fairfield to get the #1 seed would be if Marist (29-20)(16-7) loses at home in their doubleheader against Siena this afternoon at 3:00 pm.
