With a change of hands at the AD position do you guys think they'll bring hockey back to Fairfield? I mean with the recent success at Quinnipiac, if we follow their model we can have a national contender as well. Lacrosse is a prominent sport at Fairfield and the type of people who are attracted to lacrosse are also interested in hockey giving us a good fan base to start. Thoughts?

Would love to see it happen. Think we would need a big donor to help bring it back.

Even if a new AD wanted to bring back hockey again it is really up to the Trustees. A very expensive option and with no on campus facility even more difficult to get students, alumni and local hockey fans interested this time around.
Sacred Heart is in the 12 team Atlantic Hockey league (Air Force, AIC, Army, Bentley, Canisius, Hoy Cross, Mercyhurst, Niagara, Robert Morris, RIT, Sacred Heart) and plays their home games at the WBA but averaged only 373 fans last season.
SHU Football is in the 7 team NEC league (Bryant, Central Connecticut, Duquesne, Robert Morris, St. Francis, Sacred Heart, Wagner) and averaged 2,375 fans last season in their 3,334 seat Campus Field stadium.
Stag Football makes more sense than Stag Hockey and would be much more popular again in the Fall with the students and our fellow alumni especially in Rafferty Stadium but neither is coming back.

Understood, maybe Im thinking a little crazy here but facility wise wouldn't the new Alumni Hall proposed earlier this year be a suitable option to play games?

Quinnipiac's $60+ million TD Bank Sports Center contains a 3,386 seat full size hockey rink and a 3,570 seat basketball court in the same building plus parking at their York Hill Campus. The 3,500 seat proposed replacement to Alumni Hall will be on the same footprint that's there now. Unfortunately there is no room on campus for that type of facility even if the University was willing to make the type of financial commitment necessary.

It can be done. You would have to make Alumni a dual use facility or put a hockey rink next to Walsh and move the tennis courts between Lessing and the turf.
You would need major money not only for the facility, but for the program.
For example, Neeleman (JetBlue founder) made big news the last few months when you made a very large donation to up Utah to Division 1 in lacrosse. Rumors peg the # in the tens of millions.

It can't be done and it won't be done. There is no room on the AH footprint to make it a dual use facility nor is there enough room next to the WAC to squeeze in a full sized hockey rink building and seating for just an average of 15 home games a year. There is also no way that the University will make the financial commitment to bring back hockey after cancelling it in 2003 nor will it more than double the cost of replacing AH with $60+ million for one or two facilites especially when SHU plays a similar hockey program at the WBA that averages less than 400 fans a season and the Prep already plays Varisity and JV Jesuit Hockey at the Wonderland of Ice in Bridgeport.
Unrealistic dreams.

Disagree/Agree... The new Alumni Hall was going to go next to Walsh at some point. The space is there. Agree, would cost a ton of money so very, very unlikely.

This would require creative thinking out of the AD's office, to which we have seen, he has none.

Would be absolutely amazing for the school, just need the will to re add the team and a nice on-campus hockey rink, I guarantee we'd make noise in the college hockey world

Disagree/Agree... The new Alumni Hall was going to go next to Walsh at some point. The space is there. Agree, would cost a ton of money so very, very unlikely. Most of campus that is wooded can't be touched because of wetlands, including the very small space next to Walsh. You would have to tear down WAC, tennis courts, the wooded area, and the levee to get a 3,000 seat stadium for that space and even then it would be tight. Doesn't matter anyways, there's no chance it's happening.

Dont mean to resurrect an old forum. But what about having an arena in the back left section of campus were the old DBS is.
