Already on the Stag website's Cross Country Coaching Staff page: Veteran coach David Scrivines was named the Head Coach of Fairfield University Men’s and Women’s Cross Country in August of 2017. Scrivines brings over 20 years of coaching experience to the Stags. The head cross country coach of St. Joseph High School in Trumbull since 2000, Scrivines is also an assistant basketball coach for the Cadets. He previously coached cross country, track and field, and basketball in Connecticut dating back to 1996, including tenures at Quinnipiac University and the University of Bridgeport. Scrivines also worked as a scout for the Colorado Rockies and Major League Baseball Scouting Bureau and is currently a pro scout for the Boston Red Sox. Scrivines graduated from Springfield College in 1998 with a degree in sports management and a minor in business administration. He holds a master’s degree in school health education as well as multiple teaching certificates from Southern Connecticut State University. Scrivines spent the past 11 years as a physical education, health and psychology teacher at St. Joseph High School. He is currently an adjunct professor in Post University’s Sports Management program. fairfieldstags.com/coaches.aspx?rc=383&path=mcross

I have nothing against Mr Scrivines, but the school is continuing down the same path that it has followed for so many years. The more things change, the more they stay the same. As a longtime runner and former team captain, I am not encouraged. The university has no commitment to the sport.

Either make it viable or make it a club.

Also, do right by father Leeber. Most of today's donors had him in class and look fondly on his commitment to FU athletics. That angle should be worked- an easy raise from 1 to 3 or 4 scholarships.
