Fairfield University Volleyball has been ranked atop the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Preseason Poll, as voted upon by the conference's 10 head coaches. The MAAC coaches also selected senior captain Skyler Day as the Preseason Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. Day followed up the honor last fall by winning MAAC Player of the Year laurels as the Stags went unbeaten in conference action en route to their second straight MAAC Championship. Joining Day on the Preseason All-MAAC ledger is her running mate on the outside and fellow senior captain, Megan Theiller. Also a First Team All-MAAC pick in 2016
"Last year was an unbelievable year," said Head Coach Todd Kress, a conference-record five-time MAAC Coach of the Year. "So to come back and be ranked number one in the preseason – it is what it is. We know that we have a long season to push through, and we know that we need to be the best team at the end, not the best team in August."
The Stags begin the 2017 season this weekend at the BC Invitational. Fairfield challenges the host Boston College Eagles on Friday at 7 p.m. followed by Saturday clashes with Providence and Alabama Birmingham.
Action comes to Alumni Hall for the first time in 2017 on Sept. 8-9 as Stags host a pair of 2016 NCAA postseason qualifiers, Washington State and New Hampshire.
The 2017 MAAC Volleyball Championship takes place November 17-19, from Alumni Hall on the campus of Fairfield University. For all up-to-date information regarding MAAC Volleyball, visit www.maacsports.com/index.aspx
