The Fairfield University Field Hockey team tabbed second in the MAAC conference for 2017. The Stags collected 40 points in the poll and secured one of the seven first-place votes, finishing second only to Monmouth University's 48 points and six first-place votes. The Stags finished the 2016 season (8-13, 4-2 MAAC) and advanced to the MAAC Championship game for the second consecutive season. Fairfield ranked second in the MAAC in goals (61), assists (54), and assists per game (2.57).
In addition to the poll, the MAAC announced its annual Preseason All-MAAC Team which included two Fairfield University student-athletes. Hannah Pike and Jaclyn Gallagher both secured a spot on the team at the midfield position. The duo represents Fairfield's top two returning scorers, finishing fourth and fifth overall in last year's statistics. Both players were named to the All-MAAC second team following the 2016 campaign.
The Stags under Head Coach Jackie Kane, will open the 2017 season on the road, playing a pair of games in Virginia. The Stags open with the University of Virginia on August 25 at 4 pm and complete the weekend with the College of William & Mary on August 27 at noon.
The team's home opener is Friday, September 1 of Labor Day Weekend at 1:00 pm against CAA Hofstra on University Field.

Fairfield Field Hockey was born as a club sport in 1974 and became a varsity sport prior to the 1980 season. Six head coaches have guided the program. The Stags started playing Division 1 Field Hockey in 1982 and joined the MAAC in 2015 after having played in the America East conference, the Northeast Conference and the Patriot League.
