With the Stags (11-4-2)(7-1-2) 3-0 win on Senior Night over Rider (11-4-2)(6-2-2) on Lessing Field, the Stags are the 2017 MAAC Men's Soccer Regular Season Champions. It is the program's first regular-season crown since the 2011 campaign. The three goals represented a season-high for the Stags as three different players put the ball into the net this evening. "I think the performance was a culmination of the regular season," Head Coach Carl Rees said. "Tonight's effort in relation to attention to detail, intensity and mental strength was the best of the season so far. I sensed all week that we were ready for this game. We played a tough Rider team tonight and needed to put our best effort forward. The lads certainly did that tonight."The 2017 MAAC Men's Soccer Championship has a new format this year. First Round games will take place on Sunday, November 5 and are hosted by the #3 and #4 seeds, Semifinal games are hosted by #1 and #2 seeds on Thursday, November 9, and the Championship game on Sunday, November 12 will be hosted by highest remaining seed. Tonight's box score and stats page has STADIUM: Lessing Field - ATTENDANCE: 2978. Lessing Field only has 600 seats so almost 3,000 fans at the game would be way, way more than most Stag Men's Basketball games at the WBA and more than Stag Lax ever drew at Rafferty Stadium. The MAAC home attendance average is only 350 this season. No mention in the post-game release about any "record setting crowd" at the game. Congrats to the soccer team! What an event... They captured the MAAC crown on senior night, at home, in their last regular season game. Great when unforgettable memories are made ON CAMPUS! Wink, wink...
