The Stags sweep Rider 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-21) for their 16th win in a row. Megan Theiller with 19 kills on .529 hitting (19-1-34) and with 11 digs on the defensive end. For the 17th time in the last 22 seasons, Fairfield University Volleyball is the MAAC Volleyball Regular Season champions. The Stags also reached the 20-win mark for the third straight season and the sixth time in eight years.
"Theiller played as well as she has all season, and the entire team is glad to see her back and starting to hit her stride," said Head Coach Kress.
"We started off slow in both sets one and three, but started gain some traction defensively midway through each set," Kress noted. "Rider is always a tough challenge for us because of what they bring offensively. I thought we did a solid job of limiting them after making some adjustments."
With the win, Fairfield improves to 20-6 overall and 15-0 in the MAAC. The Stags who have already clinched a first round bye in the upcoming MAAC Championship claimed at least a share of their 17th MAAC Regular Season title with the Rider win.
Fairfield would earn the outright Regular Season title with the Rider win and a Niagara loss this afternoon at Marist or one more win or a Niagara (17-8, 13-3 MAAC) loss to claim the MAAC Regular Season title and secure the top seed in the upcoming MAAC Championship which will be played at Alumni Hall from Nov. 17-19.
