The two-time reigning MAAC Baseball Regular Season Champions Fairfield University Baseball team was picked to finish third in the 2018 MAAC Baseball Preseason Coaches Poll as voted upon the league's 11 head coaches. Along with the team ranking, outfielder Drew Arciuolo and third baseman Jack Gethings were chosen to the Preseason All-MAAC Team
"Winning the regular season title the past two seasons probably had a lot to do with the coaches picking us so high," Head Coach Bill Currier said. "We have lost some veteran starters and our closer who combined for over 200 innings, so we are trying to reload with some young pitchers for these important weekend innings."
"Our two preseason selections have been instrumental in our rise to the top of the league with their leadership and hard nose play on the field," Currier said. "They certainly have proven success to the league coaches in leading our offense along with senior catcher Kevin Radziewicz. They come to play the game the right way every day, which makes it fitting to see them recognized in the Preseason Poll."

The Stags will start the 67th season of Fairfield Baseball on February 23 when they open up a three-game series against Georgia Southern in Statesboro, GA. The Home Opener is Friday, March 30 on Alumni Baseball Diamond. Last season the #1 Stags were eliminated (1-2) in the 2017 MAAC Baseball Championship.
