Head Coach Anthony Bruno has been preaching the same motto and goal to his team since the beginning of the season; "Win the MAAC" and the Fairfield Women's Swimming and Diving team did just that. After four days of fantastic competition in Buffalo, N.Y., the Stags held off rival Marist and won the 2018 MAAC Championships. The Stags started the day with a narrow six-point lead over Marist but just as they had all season, the women's team stood up to the challenge in front of them and had one of their best performances in the pool. Fairfield finished the Championships with a total of 718 points defeating second place Marist who finished with 658 points. Sara Ostensen was named the MAAC Championship's Most Outstanding Swimmer and Rookie Swimmer of the Meet. Coach Bruno was selected by his peers as the 2018 MAAC Coach of the Year. www.maacsports.com/news/2018/2/17/fairfield-takes-home-2018-maac-womens-swimming-diving-championship.aspx

Congrats to the women's team! If I'm not mistaken, Marist has dominated this sport for many, many years so this is a significant accomplishment.
My three kids were all pretty good swimmers, so I know how much thankless work goes into being good at this sport (it's comparable to cross country and track and field but in the water) for very little recognition. Enjoy the championship ladies!

Congratulations to the Women's swimming team! Marist really dominates this position, I'm sure it was a very difficult task to upend them. Congratulations to Sara and Anthony as well!
