For the first time in program history, three members of the Fairfield University Baseball team were named to the All-MAAC First Team. Senior outfielder Drew Arciuolo, junior pitcher John Signore, and senior infielder Mitch Williams all earn their first career appearance on the All-MAAC First Team.
"Drew has continuously gotten better since his freshman year," Head Coach Bill Currier said. "He certainly was the premiere center fielder in the league with base stealing ability, tremendous arm and accuracy and that's a pretty impactful player. I'm glad he was recognized by the other coaches for his abilities."
"I think he (Signore) was a tremendous mixer of pitches," Coach Currier said. "He had a masterful touch and knew where to throw, how to throw it, and could control three to four pitches. The stats speak for themselves but just the competitiveness of him in the way he pitched was masterful."
"Mitch was probably the most improved player on our team offensively," Currier said. "I know he tore it up in the league and played third base after catching and even playing first base last year, he was a true utility player. He did a great job controlling the strike zone and hit the ball very hard when it came to his location. I'm real proud of Mitch for improving this year and filling a 3-4 spot in our lineup. To have him on the First Team is a tribute to Mitch and his work ethic."
This is the first time that three members of the Fairfield baseball team earned All-MAAC First Team honors. It is the fourth time that the Stags have had multiple selections (2008, 2014, 2017).
In addition to their success on the field, Fairfield tied for the conference lead with 15 selections to the All-MAAC Academic Team by maintaining a GPA greater than 3.2. Arciuolo, Williams, Josh Arnold, Drew Blake, Eric Cerno, Tyler Gambardella, Jack Gethings, Ian Halpin, Bobby McNiff, Austin Pope, Kevin Radziewicz, Tom Ryan, David Sacco, Justin Wazaney, and Tim Zeng all earned the distinctions.
