The reigning MAAC Co-Rookie of the Year Alex Madden was selected on the Preseason All-Conference Team while the Fairfield University Women's Soccer squad was picked to finish sixth in the preseason poll released today.
"I think the selection of sixth is about right because that's about where we finished last year," Head Coach David Barrett said. "We've got plenty to prove to go from that position. It gives us motivation to get better and we'll see if we can improve from what the coaches think of us at the start of the season.
"I'm pleased for Alex to get some recognition," Barrett said. "Obviously she had a great first year and we're hoping that she is able to improve on her performances from her first year and continue to grow as a player in 2018."
The Stags will begin their first season under the guidance of David Barrett when the squad opens their campaign at LIU Brooklyn on Friday at 11am. The Stags finished seventh in the conference during the 2017 campaign with a 4-5-1 league mark.
Two-time conference champions Monmouth were the unanimous favorite in the preseason poll, receiving all 11 first place votes. Quinnipiac, Siena, and Manhattan rounded out the top-four in the poll with each school earning 90 or more points. Rider, Fairfield, Marist, Niagara, Canisius, Iona, and Saint Peter's finished the rest of the poll.
