Muschajew Named MAAC Defensive Player of the WeekRookie stopped all 14 shots she faced in her two collegiate outings
For the first time in seven years, the Fairfield University Women's Soccer team began their season with back-to-back shutouts, and the main reason for that quick start was recognized by the league office. Freshman goalkeeper Aytana Muschajew was named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week after recording a pair of clean sheets with 14 saves to begin her collegiate career. "Aytana had a really good weekend and came up big for us on Sunday," Head Coach David Barrett said. "She did what she was supposed to do by making the routine saves and made a couple of really special ones to help us get the win on Sunday."One of the top goalkeepers in the state of New Jersey, Muschajew was a Morris County All-County net minder and helped lead Parsipanny Hills to an improbable NJSIAA Group II Championships as the 14th seed in 2016. In the playoffs, Muschajew recorded four shutouts in the team's six contests. She also helped guide her club squad, New Jersey Copa FC, to the US Club Soccer NPL Finals title in 2017. She was one of three goalkeepers named to the All-National Division First Team.
