After being a key to the Stags defense in the 2017 season, Corinne Persichetti was named to the Preseason All-MAAC team, while Fairfield University Field Hockey was picked to finish second in the 2018 MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll released today. Persichetti tallied three assists in addition to her strong defensive efforts this past season as she helped lead the Stags to a MAAC Championship win. "Corinne is a strong player who played great for us all season long" said Head Coach Jackie Kane. "She will once again play an important role in getting us to another conference championship this year." The Stags earned the second spot in the preseason poll with three of the first-place votes and 32 total points while Monmouth took the top spot with 33 total points. Rounding out the poll was Bryant (18), Rider (17), Sacred Heart (15), and LIU Brooklyn (11). www.maacsports.com/news/2018/8/14/about-the-maac-monmouth-field-hockey-selected-as-maac-preseason-favorite-hawks-van-der-hoop-and-garden-bachop-named-co-player-of-the-year.aspxStag Field HockeyMAAC Tournament Champions (2): 2015, 2017 Patriot League Tournament Champions (1): 2001 Patriot League Regular Season Champions (1): 1998 NCAA Tournament Appearances (3): 2001, 2015, 2017

There are 78 NCAA Division 1 Field Hockey schools. The 2017 National Champion was BIG EAST UConn (23-0)(9-0). The Stags RPI Ranking starting this season was #54 and Quinnipiac was #55. The bottom three D-1 schools were from the MAAC (LIU-Brooklyn, Bryant and Siena that dropped their field hockey program this season). There is no longer a NEC Field Hockey program. MAAC Field Hockey started in 2013. Fairfield Field Hockey started as a club sport in 1974 and joined the MAAC (Sacred Heart, Bryant, Rider, Monmouth, LIU-Brooklyn) in 2015 after being in the America East, NEC and Patriot leagues. After winning the 2013 MAAC Championship, Quinnipiac left the MAAC in 2016 for the BIG EAST (UConn, Georgetown, Liberty, Villanova, Providence, Old Dominion, Temple). The new Quinnipiac Field Hockey Stadium was completed in Sept. 2017 and serves as the home to Quinnipiac Field Hockey program. The stadium features seating for 500 fans as well as an artificial turf field and irrigation system. In addition, the venue hosts home and visitor locker rooms, team rooms, training and equipment rooms, first aid stations, restrooms for spectators as well as broadcast-ready press boxes and seating for professional and student media. University Field is the home for the Fairfield University Field Hockey program. The field consists of artificial turf with permanent stands located along the sideline that can comfortably seat 500 fans. A press box and scoreboard complete the complex, giving the Stags one of the finest field hockey facilities in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The field also serves the athletics department as a practice facility for many of its teams.
The new Bobcat Field Hockey Stadium and moving up to the BIG EAST is another example of Quinnipiac's aggressive Athletic Department while Fairfield drops down from the America East to MAAC Field Hockey. www.ncaa.com/rankings/fieldhockey/d1/nfhca-coaches

Regardless of the reason, Quinnipiac Field Hockey is in a far superior (BIG EAST) league than the MAAC and with a better home field in a real "stadium" than the Stags at University Field. Quinnipiac goes from the MAAC to the BIG EAST and the Stags go from the AE down to the MAAC. The only leagues that play D-1 Field Hockey are BIG EAST, ACC, BIG TEN, CAA, IVY, A-10, MAC, AMERICA EAST, PATRIOT, MAAC and the MAAC is at the bottom of the 78 NCAA Rankings. www.ncaa.com/rankings/fieldhockey/d1/ncaa-field-hockey-rpiMAAC Field Hockey Championships by School Since 2013Monmouth - 2 Fairfield - 2 (2 in the last 3 years) Quinnipiac - 1 MAAC Field Hockey Championship Game Appearances by School Since 2013Fairfield - 3 (Since 2015) Monmouth - 3 Quinnipiac - 2 Rider - 1 Robert Morris - 1 (Dropped field hockey in 2014)
