Stag sophomore Alex Madden (Leicestershire, England), the leading goal scorer of the Fairfield University Women's Soccer team and #1 in the MAAC with 12 goals and 1 assist, was named to the 2018 All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference First Team on Tuesday afternoon. While her All-Conference selection came following Fairfield's 2018 campaign, Madden would say she earned the honor following an offseason full of training trying to improve. "I knew it was an expectation for me to perform this year and I really wanted to go out and set the scene like I knew I could," Madden said. "I feel like I had a point to prove after I got picked for preseason All-MAAC so I definitely want to go out there and show them what I'm about."On the academic side, nine Stags were named to the MAAC All-Academic team, posting a GPA of 3.2 or higher. Bre Cocuzzo, Megan DeFeo, Gabby Diodati, Holly Habyan, Melanie Hingher, Jenny Jacobs, Taylor Psirogianes, Shannon Ryan, and Nicole Stryjek all earned the academic honors. The Stags finished the 2018 season in 9th place with a 2-6-2 MAAC record and 7-9-2 overall, in the first season under Head Coach David Barrett.

Strange but the Stags will miss her scoring talent. However, the long time coach at St. John's is a fellow Brit, St. John's is BIG EAST, they have a better soccer facility in Queens and has had more recent NCAA tournaments in the last 5 years. St. John's has 3 NCAA Tournament Appearances in 2009, 2013, 2015 and averaged 468 fans last season. Fairfield has 5 NCAA Tournament Appearances in 1997, 1998, 1999, 2005, 2008 and averaged 259 fans last season. redstormsports.com/news/2019/1/14/womens-soccer-alex-madden-commits-to-st-john-s.aspx
