Rowan Brumbaugh, NMH - A budding pure point guard whose game is all substance, Brumbaugh isn’t the flashiest point guard of the bunch, but he’s among the most efficient. He has a terrific early I.Q. for the game, an advanced understanding of the position and how to play pick-and-roll, as well as plenty of physical upside as he keeps filling out his frame.
Yeah he does. But maybe being the first to offer could pay off in the end. Anyway, I like the fact that Jay and his staff are apparently identifying good prospects early.

Identifying good prospects is nice. Winning the recruiting battle and gettin the commitment is what counts. Do you know what happens to a salesman who identifies a good lead but cannot close the sale? Sayonara!

Well yeah in some cases that could be a reality if it happened too many times I guess. But in this case, considering Brumbaugh had blown up over the summer to the point where he apparently also had offers from Miami, Kansas, Maryland, Texas and Oregon as well as Northwestern, not to mention he participated in an NBA players association camp recently, well I imagine Jay Young won't have to worry about not getting this kid to come to Fairfield. You do bring up an interesting residual question though, that being do you shoot high as a mid-major with a small percentage of actually getting certain kids or do you just stick completely to realistic offers at your level? My feeling is you have to do both but with the emphasis on the latter. But I have no problem with the fact that they offered this guy even with the expected eventual rejection even if some people consider that a bit of a negative. As long as they are able to close on enough good talent on a year to year basis even if they fail with a couple of studs, that should be okay in the long run.
Rowan de-committed from Northwestern yesterday. I doubt Stags are on the radar but something to note.
No they are no longer on his radar. As a matter of fact I'm sure he is looking for a better program from a basketball perspective (although he will have to look hard to find a better educational situation). Anyway, I witnessed this kid in action at the National Prep School Showcase in New Haven last month, and he was THE STAR in the contest I watched him participate in. So I'm sure the pressure he has received recently is behind this change of heart. That said, I am still glad the Stags gave him an offer.
