Stags win 4th set 25-16. Seager gets injured in 4th set, but team stays focused and wins MAAC Championship.

Just a shame that Seager was injured. Hopefully only a bruised knee after falling on her knee losing her balance when swinging. She left the court on crutches. A very athletic outside hitter and blocker. A good championship match for the Stags and another very good turnout from the students. Lots of excitement in “ classic” Alumni Hall.

11 times MAAC champs in program history! Clearly one of the most successful sports at FF. I would predict the stags will also be very competitive next year in the MAAC because they have a good core of players returning. Coach Kress continues to be able to recruit successfully nationally bringIng in good players and backfilling graduating seniors. The “ future is bright” is actually a realistic statement for V-ball!

Yes, Kress is a great recruiter. He has to replace Niccolini as the setter, as she is very good. Don't know if her replacement in on the roster right now or if there is a recruit lined up. Or does Niccolini have a Red-Shirt year

Just curious: Where are they going to play next season? Is there another volleyball court on campus?

JS, I believe she does if she wants to come back. Did not play at all last year.

The replacements for Manuela Nicolini are already part of the team. Alexis Rich from Kentucky is a sophomore this year and replaced Nicolini last year when Manuela when down with injury. She was named to the MAAC all rookie team and had a great Frosh season. Also on the team is freshmen setter Maddy Jerdonek who was a second team All-State in Ohio. Both players did not see much action this year because Manuela dominated. Manuela was named MVP of the MAAC tourney scoring a triple double yesterday. This guy Kress knows what he is doing!

Just curious: Where are they going to play next season? Is there another volleyball court on campus? Just a guess but you could roll in some temporary bleachers and play games in the RecPlex. Or just make a deal with the local high schools. Could they use WAC for practice or the Prep practice gym?

"Credit to Quinnipiac on incredible weekend, making this run as a six seed all the way to the championship match," said Kress of the Bobcats. "And even today, it was a great back-and-forth match. It wasn't always pretty, but it was a fun match to watch."Fairfield (24-5) improves upon its own conference record with its 11th MAAC Championship. The Stags previously hoisted the trophy in five consecutive years from 1997-2001 and then again in 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017. Kress has been on the sidelines for six of those MAAC crowns, eclipsing Siena's Garvey Pierre to set a conference record for a head coach. The win also finished out a 13-0 home schedule for the Stags. The unblemished record marks the fourth time that the Stags have gone unbeaten at Alumni Hall. Fairfield Volleyball will learns the opponent and destination for its 11th NCAA postseason trip on Sunday, Dec. 1 when the entire 64-team bracket is revealed at 8:30 p.m. on ESPNU.

Continuing our discussion of last week, looks like Nicolini will return next season. From tomorrow's CT Post:
Without visiting the campus, Nicolini decided to take a leap of faith and hasn’t looked back.
“My first time in America was preseason [freshman season],” Nicolini said. “I looked at website and knew it was right next to New York City, it was such a random choice and I didn’t know what I was going to sign up for. I am so grateful. I got so lucky, I love Fairfield; I love the community and I love the small school and the environment. I can’t imagine my life without Fairfield.”
Nicolini likes Fairfield enough that she is planning to return for a fifth season of eligibility as she will begin work on a graduate degree.

Great News for Manuela, the University, Coach Kress and Stag Volleyball. Bad news for the rest of the MAAC.
