Head Coach Todd Kress will be on the sidelines for his sixth NCAA Championship with the Stags and his eighth overall as a Division I head coach. The 2019 MAAC Coach of the Year – his conference-best seventh time receiving that recognition from his peers, Kress echoes his team's sentiment. "What's guided us the entire year has been one vision, one voice and one goal," said Kress. "We know Minnesota is big and physical, and they're one of the top teams in the country. But we're going to go out and defend and fight from the first point to the lastThe history is the history, the facts are the facts, and the numbers are the numbers. But on Friday night, Fairfield Volleyball will cast all of that aside, stand across the net from Big Ten and national powerhouse Minnesota, and ask one question. "Why not us?"fairfieldstags.com/news/2019/12/5/womens-volleyball-why-not-us-stags-prepare-for-7-minnesota-in-ncaa-championship-first-round.aspx

"I'm very proud of what we accomplished this year, and it's always a privilege to get back to the NCAA Tournament and play in a venue like this," said Head Coach Todd Kress. "I thought we had the opportunity to compete, but we didn't play our best tonight. Minnesota obviously has an opportunity to go deep in the field this year, so congratulations to them."Box Scorefairfieldstags.com/sports/womens-volleyball/stats/2019/minnesota/boxscore/10099Gophers volleyball sweeps Fairfield to reach NCAA second roundThe seventh-ranked Gophers clicked in all phases of the game, rolling into the second round with a 25-13, 25-14, 25-11 victory in front of a crowd announced at 3,956. They will return to the Pav on Saturday to face 15th-ranked Creighton, a 3-0 winner over Iowa State in Friday's first match. Fairfield coach Todd Kress said he knew the Gophers' height and muscle would be tough for his team to handle. Mayda Garcia, who led the team with seven kills, is only 5-9, and the tallest Stags players are 6 feet. Kress joked that the only way to prepare for that was for him to practice against his players, or to have them stand on boxes. Instead, Fairfield tried to counter the height deficit with a game plan reliant on strong serving and serve reception. The Stags delivered on the serving part, but they were unable to get the rest of their game going. "We had some chances in the second set and just kind of panicked,'' Kress said. "We made a few errors in a row. We let them go on too many runs.''www.startribune.com/gophers-volleyball-sweeps-fairfield-to-reach-ncaa-second-round/565913922/

Stags had leads in both the 1st and 2nd sets. In the first set, the Stags had it tied at 7-7 before Minnesota scored 6 straight points. In the 2nd set, the Stags led 10-7. Quite impressive that we were playing toe to toe with the 7th seed. In the 3rd set, Minnesota lead the entire set.
Stags showed they could play with the best.

The stags had brief leads and were competitive for a period of time in each match in the same manner as a mid- major basketball team is competitive when playing a power five basketball team for short periods of time. However, the height, strength and athleticism of a B-10 VB team quickly “rises to the top” and the Stags were essentially doubled point wise by Minnesota. I was hoping to win one set In the match , but it did not happen. Kudos to the volleyball team and field hockey teams for representing our alma mater extremely well in both NCAA tournaments. The fall season was very successful at FF with two Stag teams being NCAA tournament bound in 2019. Stags Up!
