Maryland basketball's top point guard recruiting targets have become increasingly popular among other schools, so Mark Turgeon expanded his list on Friday. The Terps extended an offer to St. Thomas More (Oakdale, Conn.) rising senior Desmond Claude.
His mother played at Syracuse and his father played at Fairfield.
Good question. Just went through all the rosters and didn't see a Claude anywhere and don't remember a player with that name.
Maybe he "played" another sport.
Also never realized as I was looking through the seasons that in their senior year, Mark Young (20.9 ppg) had a higher scoring average than Joey D (18.5).

Oh yeah Mark was also a great player too although Joey fairly gets the most remembered from that season (and era) as the most decorated player. Actually they BOTH were selected in the 2nd round of the NBA draft. In fact Mark might have even been picked before Joe. I can't remember for sure.
As far as the answer from the question above, I have to admit I am completely stumped. Va., do you know the answer (making this a trivia question) or are you just throwing this out there in hopes of an answer? My quick research comes up completely empty I'm afraid. OTOH one thing I did find out from my research is that this kid actually played a year at Hillhouse (as a freshman) thereby adding him to the list as another special player who left the CIAC to go to prep school, an often raised complaint of mine (as you know). Anyway, I'm curious to get an answer to this mystery.

No, I didn't intend it to be a trivia question. I don't know the answer. My initial thought was Desmond Wade (given they have the same first name) but Wade seems to be a bit too young to have a 17-year old son.
Everyone loves mysteries, so I'll add another hint that may help (I do not know the answer) as his father played in countries overseas like Sweden and Italy after playing at Fairfield according to this article:
A check of the Syracuse woman's basketball records shows no letter winner names Claude, nor does a Claude show up in the statistics from the 1970s through the 2010s. So no help from that direction.
Here's one to make you feel old. Andrew Horan, Class of 2023, 6'8, playing for Virginia Elite this summer. Son of two Fairfield players, Mike Horan and Cindy O'Connor.
