Campus pictures from the University Archives, Mr. Peabody, Sherman and the Wayback Machine! Fairfield University 1926 ⏪ Two of the earliest photos we have of the Japanese Garden at Bellarmine Hall. It shows the pergola, pond, boat, and south pond bridge. Originally designed and built in 1926 for Walter B. Lasher at his Hearthstone Hall estate, the garden was designed with three bridges, water flowing from pool to pool on stone runways, stone paths, Japanese lanterns and a replica of Mount Fujiyama which was able to let off smoke through a chimney in the peak. 1965 ⏪ The library was located on the first floor of Canisius Hall from 1957 until 1968. Canisius Hall was home to the arts, humanities, and social sciences library while the science library was housed in Xavier Hall during this time.

Fairfield University1988 ⏪ Mr. Walter Lashar and his wife, Mrs. Amelia Lashar made Hearthstone Hall and its 105-acre estate their home until a tax foreclosure forced them to sell the property. The Jesuits purchased it to found the Fairfield College Preparatory School in 1942. Hearthstone Hall, renamed Bellarmine Hall in honor of sixteenth century theologian St. Robert Bellarmine, became the first Jesuit faculty residence and remained so until 1981. Today, Bellarmine is home to the offices of University Advancement, Marketing & Communications, and the Office of the President and undergraduate students graduate on the back lawn. Fairfield University 1965 ⏪ A student studies on the lawn in front of Jogues Hall. Somebody at the University should know that Northwest dorm (Jogues) was opened in 1968 and not in 1965. My dorm for my junior year (1971-72) with the great Fr. Henry "How's it going" Murphy, SJ living with us on NW4.
