Fairfield University Baseball senior infielder Mike Becchetti was named a Collegiate Baseball Newspaper National Player of the Week after his scorching performance in the series at North Florida that featured a .571 batting average and four home runs. Becchetti was one of nine position players listed for the national weekly award. "It means the world to me," Becchetti said. "As a young kid I always dreamed of playing on the highest stage of Division I Baseball and to see all the hard work I've put in to pay off feels incredible. Special thanks to my family, my high school Stepinac, and Fairfield University for the endless support."For the season, Becchetti leads the MAAC in both hits (23) and home runs (five). His 1.9 hits per game leads the league and ranks 11th in the country. He also is tied with his teammate Charlie Pagliarini for the MAAC lead with 1.3 runs scored per contest. Becchetti, who was also honored as a Collegiate Baseball News National Player of the Week, takes home his first weekly award. "Mike used the whole field and barreled balls all weekend with power," Head Coach Bill Currier said.
