The Fairfield Stags will take on the reigning CAA Champions, Hofstra Pride (16-19) on Wednesday at 3pm. The Stags (21-12)(7-2) are riding a four-game winning streak after sweeping Hartford and can tie for their longest winning streak of the season with a win on Wednesday at Hofstra. The Stags scored 27 runs during their three-game series against the Hawks, right around their average of 8.9 runs plated per game, the 13th most in the country. Fairfield has now scored in double figures in 16 of their 33 games played. They rank in the top-20 in the country in several offensive categories including: batting average (.319), on-base percentage (.420), and slugging percentage (.547), all of which are current program single-season records. The Stags have also shown their power by leading the MAAC in both doubles (75) and homers (59). The 59 long balls are already ranked in the top-10 in conference history by a team in a single season. Charlie Pagliarini has been at the forefront of the power barrage as he tied the program's single season record with his 13th homer of the year. He also drove in his 100th career RBI in the win against Hartford. He leads the MAAC in homers and also with 47 RBI. Live Statsstats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=444416&vislive=fair

I feel bad for NCAA pitchers.
There are only 9 qualifying pitchers in the MAAC with ERAs below 5.00... Stags have 2, though!

I feel bad for NCAA pitchers. There are only 9 qualifying pitchers in the MAAC with ERAs below 5.00... Stags have 2, though! About 15 years ago the NCAA, stunned by how many home runs were leaving the ballpark in a given game, accentuated by the circus that was happening yearly in the College World Series in Omaha, instituted a cutback in the spring effect of the bats being used. The power numbers decreased after that, particularly in the final big event of the year (although a move from the old Rosenblatt Stadium to a more spacious ballpark played a part), but now it seems the prolific hitting numbers, both in power and average, are reappearing. I'm not sure of any specific changes in the "ping" effect of the weapons, so I would imagine better coaching, weight-lifting, eating habits, etc. are more to blame (or exalt in if you like that type of baseball). Anyway like you say this is not good news for pitchers as they continuously watch some of their best pitches get hit hard and many times a long way. Personally I would prefer that college ball would be wood bat only just like the pro and even summer collegiate leagues do it. However expenses among other things make that impossible I guess. Bottom line is to enjoy the great hitting, especially in our case when a lot of it is done by the Stags, right?
