Absolutely a critical game for Mens Lax at SB tomorrow. Perhaps the most important game so far of the Coach Baxter era . The stags are currently 2-3 in the CAA standings and must win to stay in the playoff hunt. SB and Towson are who are ahead of the stags in the CAA standings are both 3-2 with Towson who beat the stags previously holding a tie breaker over the stags. Towson has an easier game vs Monmouth this weekend and Hofstra at 2-3 who is also in the hunt for the last CAA playoff berth is against cellar dweller Hampton. Never easy to win on the road! Go stags.

Stags 4-8 at the end of the First Period. SBU scores the first goal just 34 seconds into the game and has led by 5 goals (6-1). Stags 6-11 at the half. SBU scores 3 goals in the last 4:54 of the period and with a 29/21 shots advantage and 18/12 SOG. Stags 10-15 at the end of the Third. Not looking good for the Stags. Stags with 4 goals in the first 4 minutes of the final period including 3 goals in 48 seconds. Stags 14-16 with 10 minutes left in the game. Stags 14-17 for the critical loss. Fairfield slips to (4-9)(2-4) with 7th CAA losing season in a row and fails to qualify for the CAA Championship again. FF once with a promising future in Lax under Ted Spencer and in the Great Western Lacrosse League has become a after thought in the CAA and nationally under Coach Baxter. Like hoops the Lax program is going nowhere . Another failure of a prime program!

The stags had a nice niche in the GWL when it existed. However, as Lax at the D1 level grew and power conferences like the B10 and Big East formed lax leagues the stags faded. I believe FF cannot or will not put the resources into lax so the stags can at least be competitive in the CAA. Reminds me of what happened with mens basketball when the Big East was formed. FF who was at the time a significant program in the east failed to step up its commitment and missedj the opportunity to be part of the BE.

Since opening the $16 million Rafferty Stadium with a loss to Holy Cross on February 14, 2015, the Stag Men's Lacrosse home record at Rafferty Stadium is (28-35) (.444).

The Big East took Denver’s lax program over ours - that’s one of our athletic departments biggest failures.
