Figured he was leaving. Good for Mike, seems like a great opportunity. Wish him all the best, but he certainly will be missed.
Interesting that he just left the Danbury Westeners of the NECBL this week, since they seem to have a pipeline from Ga Tech. Non-Fairfield : Bobby Zmarzlak of Stamford has also transferred to Ga Tech after starting for 4 years at Maryland. He remains at Danbury for now.

Also this morning, Charlie Pagliarini has committed to Texas A& M. Two great landing spots for former Stags

I suspect this move depends on his MLB draft position. Most "experts" put him in the high teens. One guy had him going in the 13th round.
The NIL money might be bigger than an MLB signing bonus.

That's interesting. I figured he'd go in the top half of the draft and be off on his pro career.

That's interesting. I figured he'd go in the top half of the draft and be off on his pro career. Isn't this just a backup in case the draft does not work out to his liking? Assume he can play a grad year or go pro. It's a win-win for Charlie. It's like he applied to Yale and has Duke as his safety school.

He doesn't need a backup plan -- it's 100 percent he's getting drafted. But if he could replicate his senior-year offensive numbers in the SEC, he would make a dramatic leap in the 2024 draft, perhaps even receive a six-figure bonus. Maybe he can leverage a nice NIL payment from Texas A&M by giving them his extra year. A Master's degree never hurts, and he could tap into the pipeline of Texas A&M grads for future career opportunities. That said, he'll probably sign with whichever team drafts him this weekend.

This seems similar to UConn's Reggie Crawford. He transferred to Tennessee, and several weeks later was drafted by SF and signed (Admittedly drafted much higher than I anticipate where Pags will)

Don’t know how much of its $8.5+ million NIL money Texas A&M gave to baseball players, but A&M’s 12th man+ fund seems to be the reason the NCAA sent out a memo last week notifying all its members that if a state law permits NIL activities that are prohibited by the NCAA , the NCAA expects the institution to comply with the NCAA rules. People are watching to see what, if anything, the NCAA does to any school which chooses to follow the state law in violation of the NCAA regulations. NIL Fact of the Day Texas A&M athletes made $8,547,477.96 from NIL endorsement deals from Aug. 1, 2022, to June 11, 2023, according to a FOIA request obtained by The Eagle. According to the Bryan, Texas, newspaper, male athletes more than doubled their revenue in Year 2 of NIL, profiting $8,412,816.96. Male A&M athletes pocketed $4,076,931.82 in the first year of NIL activity. Female athletes earned $134,661 in Year 2 of college athletes being able to profit off their publicity rights. It is a more than $37,000 jump from the $96,725 women's sports players saw in Year 1. An itemized breakdown of NIL compensation was not provided to The Eagle. – Pete Nakospreview.mailerlite.io/emails/webview/327565/92677155398354004Another point concerning schools violating NCAA NIL policy:

I would tend to agree with you here. Yes the A&M angle is enticing in many ways (for all the reasons you list above), but that said, a decision like this could certainly backfire if say Charlie didn't have a great year playing for the Aggies or him getting injured close to next year's draft. Also, considering his age at this point which to a MLB club is thought of as pretty old to start in pro ball, perhaps his value, even if he indeed produced good results in high level college ball, might not necessarily make him a more valuable commodity than he is now because of the age factor. Anyway it's good to have choices. I hope it works out for him.

I'm guessing he is drafted tomorrow.
MLB physique. Fields his position. MLB arm. Plate discipline. Hits with power and average to all fields (I think he'd look great hitting in Fenway).
High enough to dissuade him from A&M? We'll see.

Per D1 Baseball's Transfer Tracker, Mike Handal has transferred to Stetson and Matt Venuto is moving on to UNC Greensboro.
Coming to Fairfield is Peter Phillips, a relief pitcher from SCSU. Phillips has had a terrific summer with the Bristol Blues of the NECBL

Stetson...UNCG...surprised...baseball-wise horizontal moves...academically both a step down. I thought these guys could have gone higher and certainly found better places to get graduate degrees. Who knows?
