One of the interesting things in the interview is Currier acknowledging that Fairfield's academics require a somewhat different approach to recruiting (e.g., he goes out and finds a D3 transfer instead of a JC who might not fit academically).
To me, it proves the point that while Fairfield might have some challenges recruiting versus say St. Peter's or Iona, there is no reason why we can't be successful in MBB when are successful in other sports including baseball WBB, volleyball, etc. that pose the same or similar challenges. But it takes the right coach, approach and support.

Great interview, very open and honest about the whole process and how he tries to give the Stags a competitive advantage in a challenged and evolving landscape. Currier is playing chess while others play checkers. Podcasts like this can only give the program more visibility especially in geographies where we are not well known.

Great and honest interview! How many times did Coach Currier state that Fairfield is a strong academic school and because of this he need to focus on recruiting kids with strong academic records. He wont even entertain a JUCO transfer. So I can't help but ponder why we are not actively pursuing the Patriot League. Why do we continue to put ourselves at a recruiting disadvantage if we dream of big time athletics? We are shooting ourselves in the foot. I wish the administration and trustees would be honest with themselves and decide the appropriate path. Do we want to elevate our athletcs program? If yes, then sacrifices need to be made. Do you really think Duke and Georgetown are doing everything up to their academic standards? I doubt it very much. So if we want to run an academics first athletics program, then be that and own that. This muddled world in the MAAC is getting us nowhere fast.

Finally got around to listening to this interview. It was excellent. Currier sounds like a great guy.
We all have to realize that men's hoops is not the only sport on campus. Some fans don't care about anything else, and that's okay.
But the fact is, Currier has built a powerhouse of a program and sustained it for many years. He should be applauded for his success.

If you are a baseball fan, nothing like spending an afternoon at Alumni Diamond. I try to never miss a home game. Great venue, comfortable and close to the action. Only needs a concession stand or a food truck for games when there is no game at Rafferty. Oh, and distance markers on the outfield fence. (Been asking for 2 years). Getting ready to head out there with a can of white Krylon and some stencils.π Bring you water bottle.π
