Not being a big soccer guy in years past, I have not frequently been a spectator of matches at Lessing Field.
Now that I have become a regular attendee of men's and women's soccer, it really irritates me how poorly designed it is.
It is NOT fan friendly. The bleachers are positioned on either side of the press box building, cutting off much of the field sight-lines. It should be positioned behind or on top of the seating areas, similar to Rafferty. (the softball field has a similar design problem as you cannot see home plate from sections of the bleachers-I sit outside the outfield fence in a camping chair).
The light poles should also be behind the bleachers and not in front of the stands.
AND the lighting on those poles is grossly inadequate. It's like watching a game in a cave.
On a side note, with such HORRIBLE lighting, why schedule weekend games at night and not afternoon? It is embarrassing.
As the University prioritizes facilities projects, this should be at the top of the list.
Bring Lessing in line with Rafferty, Mahoney and Alumni Diamond. Its been 20 years since its last renovation and it was done poorly from the get go.

The Fairfield University soccer programs play their home games on Lessing Field. Renovated in 2003, the playing surface was expanded for soccer and the grass surface itself was replaced with a high-durability sod. Irrigation and drainage systems were installed along with lights to allow for night games. Along with a scoreboard and a press box, the renovation has given the Stags one of the league’s top facilities. The 600-seat stadium (in addition to standing room surrounding the facility) is Stag fan-friendly as it is located centrally on campus..... fairfieldstags.com/facilities/lessing-field/5

FU73 thanks for the pics. I left out in my assessment, there are NO stands at mid field either due to the press box design.

Is the 2nd picture from a lacrosse game? Definitely an old pic. The flag is over the press box and now is behind the south goal. Probably from a game when Rafferty was under construction. Bad LAX field also.😜
