Northwestern comes to FF with a 4-3 record fresh off of a two match sweep of both opponents in the Northeastern University Tournament. The stags on the on the other hand are coming off a rather flat performance vs LIU. I fully expect the stags to get swept. Hopefully, the match will be competitive with at least some close sets. Like basketball, mid major VB teams rarely beat power five conference teams during the regular season. Yes, upset wins in the NCAA tournament are sometimes the exception for mid-majors but rarely in the regular season. However, unlike BB the mid majors sometimes can get a home game in the O/O/C schedule vs P5. So perhaps there is some magic in Mahoney which will lead to a competitive match,

No magic in Mahoney arena for VB as the stags were dominated by Northwestern and were swept with none of the sets being close. The wildcats hit at an outstanding .411% compared to the stags paltry .098% for the match including a -.030% in the third set for the stags. The first part of set #1 started as expected with the stags playing evenly with Northwestern giving some of the attendees the hope of a competitive match up. Then as expected the height and athleticism of the Wildcats took over dominating the stags for the remainder of the matchup. Next assignment for the sub .500 ( 3-4) stags is to travel to RI and face a decent Bryant team. Hopefully the stags will recover and be able to level their record at 4-4 before starting league play.

"Northwestern was the best team we've played this season, and I think we did some positive things against them. We were scrappy and didn't back down against a very good opponent, and I was happy to see improvement in some of the areas that we focused on in practice this week," said Head Coach Nancy Somera. "But we made too many errors on things that had nothing to do with who was on the opposite side of the net. We had some passing breakdowns and needed to be stronger on the block to keep Northwestern from getting comfortable. A Big Ten-caliber team is going to capitalize on those errors, and that was a major difference in the match today."Just 280 fans at Mahoney Arena Box Score fairfieldstags.com/boxscore.aspx?path=wvball&id=13707
