The Stags (7-5) (3-1) are on the road at the Bronx and then at New Rochelle this weekend. The Jaspers (2-12) are one of the weaker teams in the league and by season end should be in the lower bottom half of the the MAAC standings. However, one never knows the outcome when playing on the road. Just a few weeks ago FF travelled to Brooklyn to play LIU (2-13) and were swept 0-3. FF has superior talent then LIU and should never lose to them and certainly not loose in three sets. Stags should return from the Bronx with a "W". On Sunday FF travels to IONA and things get much harder. The Gaels have a very good defense lead by an outstanding libero in Hope Matschner. She averages 6.52 digs per set tops in the MAAC and a significant nationally. Iona Like FF and Marist are the three teams chasing Quinnipiac who is the MAAC favorite. FF so far has piled up three wins in the MAAC by playing the bottom dwellers from upstate NY (Siena, Canisius and Niagara). Last weekend FF dropped a match in five very close sets vs Marist. I expect similar results(five sets) with perhaps the stags on the short end once again when they bus back up I-95 to North Benson road. Lets hope i am wrong and the stags win! Stags Up!

Stags sweep the Jaspers hitting a very good .330 vs Manhattan .029 . The Jaspers are a young team comprised mostly of frosh/sophomore and they will finish on the bottom of the league this year . Things will get much harder for FF in New Rochelle tomorrow against a much more seasoned and quality team in Iona.

Back from New Rochelle watching the Stags go 2-0 this weekend. I did not expect a sweep of the Gaels. However, down by seven points in the 2nd set the Stags picked up the pace and went on to win the 2nd set. The 2nd set FF comeback just took the win out of Iona’s sails and the stags went on to a sweep. Mykela Haut , FF outstanding pin hitter had a terrific match with a solid double/double today. Next Friday the stags face Quinnipiac in what most likely will be a preview of the MAAC tournament championship game. QU is undefeated and the stags will look to hang the first “L” on them in “ The Leo”. If u can , stop by and see the action. I don’t think you will be disappointed. Go Stags!!

Only thing missing was a trip to the Bronx for dinner! 😜 Big week with QU next week. Women's soccer at QU on Wednesday and the big Friday VB showdown at the Leo.

"We didn't compete at the level we needed for the first set and a half, but things turned around when we really started playing for each other and just fighting harder for every point," said Head Coach Nancy Somera. "I'm proud of the way we were able to refocus and come away with the 3-0 win despite not playing our best. We have some work to do in the practice gym this week to be ready for Quinnipiac on Friday night."Box Scorefairfieldstags.com/sports/womens-volleyball/stats/2023/iona/boxscore/13714MAAC Volleyball Standings School-MAAC-OverallQuinnipiac 6-0, 10-5 Fairfield 5-1, 9-5 Marist 5-1, 7-10 Niagara 4-2, 5-9 Iona 3-3, 7-10 Rider 3-3, 4-10 Siena 2-4, 2-14 Canisius 1-4, 3-10 Manhattan 1-5, 2-14 Saint Peter's 0-6, 0-17 maacsports.com/standings.aspx?path=wvballThe #2 Stags return home on Friday, Oct. 6 for a rematch of last season's MAAC Championship with defending champ #1 Quinnipiac. First serve from Mahoney Arena is slated for 7 p.m. Admission is FREE for all fans to all regular season home matches this season. The Stags are (2-2) at home averaging 605 fans. Hopefully some kind of promotion and extra effort by those in charge at the Athletic Department to get the students to Mahoney Arena on Friday night?

Unfortunately Oct 9-10 is listed as the "Fall Break" so many students may have other plans for the long weekend.
Good opportunity to create a Friday night event for those who hang on campus.

A promotion on FRIDAY/Saturday next weekend would be a complete waste of time. Fall break is a four day event (Monday/Tuesday are off days). The students will be gone. It would be a waste of a budget on a promotion which can’t have a chance to be successful.
