"Defense has been a major focus for us in our practice gym, and I'm glad to see it show on the court on gamedays recently," said Head Coach Nancy Somera. "We've gone over 70 digs in back-to-back matches against two of the stronger teams in our league (Quinnipiac and Iona). When we're passing well and staying in system – and also making some plays out of system on top of that – it makes everything else we're trying to do a little bit easier."208 fans at the game Box Scorefairfieldstags.com/sports/womens-volleyball/stats/2023/iona/boxscore/13716#2 Fairfield (7-1)(11-5) rounds out its four-match homestand this weekend in Mahoney Arena with visits from #5 Rider (4-4)(5-11) and #10 Saint Peter's (0-9)(0-20) on Oct. 14-15. Looking ahead at the remaining schedule how FF does against Marist at home and Quinnipiac on the road will most likely be the deciding matches on which program wins the MAAC regular season. All three teams are very much in a competitive battle for first place. A “W” at home vs the Red Foxes is a must . Marist has beaten FF once this season in POK and would hold the tie breaker if they beat the stags at Mahoney. The stags are in a better position vs QU because they have defeated the Bobcats a “ The Leo” but will need to win on the road to beat QU twice. Of course any match on the road is always difficult to win. However a danger spot on the remaining schedule is the trip to western ny vs Canisius and Niagara because one never can count on a win up there.
