The stags travel to Canisius and Niagara for weekend matches. On paper the stags are better in all of the key stats( hitting %, digs, blocks, kills) then both opponents. Only in service aces Canisius is slightly better 1.7 per set vs 1.5 per set for FF. The stags should win both matches. However, as we all know winning on the road is always a crap shoot when the road games require a long travel. Hopefully, at a minimum FF can split with both opponents. The only good thing about traveling to the Buffalo area is Quinnipiac is our travel partner and plays both teams on opposite days as the stags. They face the same jeopardy as the stags! The bobcats are the real competition for first place.

Fairfield Stags @fairfieldstag Canβt count βem out! @stagsvb drops Set 1, fights off set point in Sets 2 & 3, and comes all the back to beat Canisius in Buffalo. #WeAreStags π€π "Part of being a good team is finding ways to win when you aren't playing your best, and that's what we did for a large part of today's match," said Head Coach Nancy Somera. "But I'm proud of the way we improved throughout the match. Once our defense and passing got a bit stronger, that helped open up our offense and put some pressure on Canisius. And fortunately, we made a few more plays in key moments to come away with the win."Box Scorefairfieldstags.com/sports/womens-volleyball/stats/2023/canisius/boxscore/13719#1 Stags are now (10-1)(14-5) and #4 Niagara beats #2 Quinnipiac (9-2)(13-7) 3-0 (25-11, 25-22, 25-18). Stags start out slowly against Canisius losing set #1. Then they show true grit winning the next two sets in very close two point victories. Set #4 is all FF as the stags take care of business and hit a whopping .478. FF will need to play better to defeat Niagara tomorrow. Stags up!

Tough matchup for the stags today at 1pm as they face a surging Niagara team winners of 8 out of the last 9 matches. NU did the stags a favor by dispatching Quinnipiac yesterday. Hopefully they wonβt be able to return the favor to QU by beating the stags today! Stags up!

Stags complete the dreaded trip to Western NY in great fashion. Taking two matches vs Canisius and Niagara. Even though FF won both matches the contests were extremely competitive. Niagara a team who prior to playing the stags won 8 of 9 matches might be at this time the best team the Stags have faced in MAAC play. In the meantime QU dispatched Canisius 3-0 to remain one game behind the MAAC leading stags. Sets up a terrific matchup in Hamden next Sunday #1 vs #2. Go stags!

"That was a great defensive match with some amazing, scrappy plays on both sides. Niagara is a solid team that's trending in the right direction," said Head Coach Nancy Somera. "We were able to keep their middles neutralized as a part of their offense and made them earn their points today."The #1 Stags (11-1)(15-5) have just one match on the docket next week as they travel to Hamden for the return match with Quinnipiac. First serve on Sunday, Oct. 29 is slated for 1 p.m. #2 Quinnipiac is currently in second place in the MAAC at (10-2) as a part of a (14-7) overall record. The Stags won the first meeting between the two squads, 3-1, on Oct. 6 at Mahoney Arena. MAAC Volleyball Standingsmaacsports.com/standings.aspx?path=wvball
