42:50 minute podcast recorded on Friday, mainly discusses who contacted Casey and who Casey contacted for advice when named to the interim head coach position as well as discussing the scholarship guys and Jack Brown. No mention of the new assistant coaches.
Items I found interesting: 1. Fields, Leach, and Goodine are all gametime decisions for the BC game. From the podcast, I’d guess Goodine would be the most likely to play although Casey claims Brycen is only around 70% effectiveness due to the toe injury. 2. Seck will have the ankle injury evaluated Saturday and based off that evaluation— a rehab timetable will be created. 3. Casey hoping for Yetna to be able to play starting mid-December. Casey not expecting Yetna to dominate initially because he hasn’t played in a game situation in a long time. 4. Casey will have a total of 11 practices with the team between being named head coach and the BC game. 5. Curtis has been playing PG in practice lately because of all the injuries. Casey says Curtis is fine there as long as he doesn’t have to go against intense pressure from the defense.
Concerning item 5, I don’t know if Curtis was handling PG duties because Casey wanted Floyd as the 2G with Fields and Leach injured or if Casey felt Curtis was a more reliable PG than Floyd would be.
Anyone who understands what slip and circle mean when discussing half court offense will have a better understanding of Casey’s comments on Smith and Bleechmore than what I was able to understand.

Can't comment on what "slip and circle" means yet because I haven't heard the tape and basically am leaving now to drive to the game. Maybe another day after I listen. Anyway concerning point 1 as you describe it, maybe you have installed a little hopeful optimism in me that possibly Fields, Leach, Goodine or all three could see some action even if only limited. Fingers crossed that happens. However if they are not ready and could hurt themselves further, I would hope Casey is cautious and doesn't put anyone in who shouldn't be considering the rest of the season is still to be played. Concerning point 5, I think I know enough about Floyd now to state that other than when Fields is in there and playing the point, Floyd will be the man in that situation and not Curtis. Regarding Matt who is someone I know a lot about having watched him play many times in the past, he is a 2-guard first but can fill in at the 1 if necessary, a role he played well when he performed for Northwest Catholic a couple of years ago. But if Caleb is out as he might be this evening, I would expect Jasper to start at the 1 and Matty to be his backup at that position.
Some items from the 48+ minute podcast: -Seck is looking at 2 weeks of rehab, most likely 3 and a half weeks before contact practice/possible game play -Yetna’s rehab is on schedule, possible late December return for full contact practice -There’s a definite break from JY’s coaching beliefs. Casey stated the team has had to absorb a lot of new stuff on both offense and defense. Casey claims team is about 30% to where he wants it to be; in large part due to the injuries to Seck and Yetna. Casey said he wants the team to run both off of stops and makes. -Casey unsure if we’re going to add another assistant coach. Reading between the lines of his answer, I think Casey would prefer to not add another assistant this season. The DOBO has prior coaching experience and is assisting at practices. -A quick, generic discussion of JJJ returning to the team. -The responsibility of scouting upcoming opponents is split 3 ways, so Taj will get 1/3 of the scout responsibilities. Taj also handling monitoring the academic progress of the players in addition to other assistant coach’s duties. -Casey not overly concerned about back to back games in Philly. Feels we have the depth to do well the second night.
Obviously a lot more information and opinions than those I’ve listed in this podcast.

Latest Open Court podcast now up. Definitely more of a fun one for Chris, Bob and Joe than those previous considering the Stags recent success. Caleb Fields an excellent and articulate guest. Great info too including a little discussion on possible OOC scheduling next season.
We are so lucky to have Caleb Fields. Remember frequent posts of past seasons about a lack of toughness. In his words, Jasper and he are dogs who don’t back down. He’s a leader. Saw that when on the bench at SHU and how he describes his words with Peyton vs. BC.
They really like playing for Chris Casey. The running style aside, I think Casey’s approach is very appropriate when you have people like Fields. Smart, older players who are fully committed to the work. Casey speaks in this podcast about at one point stepping back at that day’s practice because his guards are doing the coaching.
Nice at the end when Caleb talks about working toward his MBA. Smart young man with smart parents. Hope he stays healthy. Class act.
A few items from the podcast: 1. Rogan’s shoulder had been bothering him for quite some time. They took a MRI and found he had a torn labrum. 2. Our game at Sacred Heart this year was the first game of the contract for a home and home series. Casey said he’s going to check with the MAAC because with SHU joining the MAAC next season, we’re probably going to be playing them twice so how are we supposed to complete our current contract with SHU. 3. Drexel will be coming to Mahoney next season and there’s a possibility we’ll be in the same MTE as Yale.
In the name of all that is good and holy, DO NOT play Sacred Heart three times next year.
Fairfield should get a home game and the other game should be at a neutral site (harbor yard).
It will be interesting to see how the annual series with SHU evolves.
At first it was a novelty with good crowds at the WBA over the years. Then it fell off and roared back tow years ago when the box score indicated over 1000 more fans at the Pitt than the listed capacity.
At the Leo last year, very disappointing as SHU presence was non existent. This year at the Pitt, the band filled the stands. Our women's game at the Pitt had a more vocal crowd. IMO, this game will now have slightly more interest than MSM.
I like the suggestion of a home and neutral. But kind of a waste of $$. We know what 1200 fans looks like at the Arena.
Not likely, but maybe we'll get lucky and they just finish the contract with our home game as we look at the MAAC in our rear view mirror.

I have always believed interest in this rivalry would wane over time. And with the waning interest, attendance would fall. To some extent I have been wrong about this, until this year attendance remained above what you would expect either team to draw for other games.
To some extent, I have to look at this years game as an anomaly, the teams played after the students had gone home for the semester, seriously limiting student attendance. Of the 1387 in attendance, 70% had to be stags fans.
All that said, the game properly promoted would make economic sense at harbor yard. Of course proper promotion will never happen. So I agree Paulie, the game may not make economic sense to be played there. Certainly if only 1300 fans are in attendance it wouldn't make sense. But with 5000 fans, something that is totally doable, and has been achieved in the past, the game would make a whole lot of sense. Lets see if Fairfield is in the MAAC next season, this would be a non-issue if they change conferences.
Some of the things mentioned in the podcast: *In his first season after prep school, Jasper’s North Florida State team won the 2022 junior college national championship. *Jasper chose us over Marshall, UMBC, Oklahoma State and Utah because he felt those schools were waiting to see who was going to commit to them via the portal, where we made it clear he’d be a main contributor right from the start. *Jasper’s dad was his postgrad year coach in Florida. *We use the letter X to denote a switch on the screen. Against LeMoyne we went X5 meaning everyone was going to switch regardless of what matchups would result from the switches. Some games earlier this season we’ve gone X3 or X4. *Casey said he thinks Seck is at around 70-80% recovered as far as Seck’s effectiveness on the court. *Yetna’s recovery is progressing along. No definitive date for his return was mentioned but seems mid-January target is still in place. Yetna won’t play until he feels 100% healthy, Casey says that is Casey’s top concern. *Around 4:30 remaining in the podcast is when Casey discusses his thoughts and concerns about tonight’s game with Siena.
