The stags travel to Jersey City and Lawrenceville to face St. Petes and Rider on Sat. and Sunday respectively. The firstplace stags can tie up the regular season championship and #1 seed this weekend. Saturday, they face just a woeful St. Peters team who is 0-28 this season. This match should be a "w" and be over in three sets. The matchup gives coach Somera a chance to rest her regulars and to give some of the new frosh players a chance for PT. St. Petes should really look at eliminating women's VB as a varsity sport. The teams five-year record is 16-138. That cannot be any fun for the peacock players. On Sunday the stags continue to head south in the garden state and face Rider. The match up against Rider will be more difficult, Rider has won three matches in a row and is in a battle with Iona and Canisius for the sixth a final spot in the MAAC tournament. They will be ready to play. On paper the stags are better in the key offensive and defensive categories with the exception of serve aces, Rider -154, FF-137. Let's wrap up the season championship and get ready to win the conference y/e tournament played at the "Leo" this year and a bid to the big dance. Go Stags!!
PS-Our travel partners QU faces Rider on Saturday. I am hoping Rider knocks of the Bobcats and does the stags a Favor.

QU loses to Rider and I believe that cements us for the Season Championship and #1 seed in the tourney no matter what we do tomorrow at Rider.

Should be playing "loose" as this one is for pride. Nothing to lose but momentum.
Rider could improve their seeding and avoid Marist in the PIG.

Stags 27-25 in the first set and win on a 3-0 run. Stags had led Rider 14-10. Stags 25-7 in the second set hitting .417% with 4/0 aces and 12/4 in kills . Stags 25-23 in the third set for the 3-0 win"Our defense carried us today," said Head Coach Nancy Somera. "We were digging tough balls and making good passes, and that kept us going in the right direction while our offense worked some things out early. Credit to Rider for their part in that, as well. There were some great rallies today with both defenses going all out. That's the kind of volleyball we need to be playing going into the tournament, because we know our opponents are going to bring it like Rider did today."Box Scorefairfieldstags.com/sports/womens-volleyball/stats/2023/rider/boxscore/13726Fairfield ends the regular season at (16-2)(20-6) ahead of their first round bye in the 2023 MAAC Volleyball Championship hosted next weekend on campus at Mahoney Arena.
